Among the more interesting tidbits in David Aldridge’s column on the pro potential of this year’s crop of point guards is UConn’s Kemba Walker drawing comparison to Houston’s Kyle Lowry and Denver’s Ty Lawson.

"Walker's had the better year (than Kentucky’s Brandon Knight), he's got the buzz, he had the great Big East tournament, but he's probably 5-foot-10," a veteran personnel man told Aldridge. "If you look around the NBA, it doesn't mean you can't play. Earl Boykins proved you can play. But how many guys come into the NBA and dominate under six feet? That doesn't mean the guy can't play. I don't see him playing with the toughness of a Kyle Lowry, but I could see him coming in and being as effective as him."

One Pacific Division personnel man insists Walker will be the second point guard taken in the draft:

"You look at Ty Lawson and what he's done and he's a little more dynamic than Ty. He has more of a defensive mindset than last year and he's kind of evolved into the kind of guy that can get his shot. Splitting pick and rolls, stopping on a dime and shooting the floater. You see NBA players make those plays."

He's a good little player... and a stress little ;)

I think he's shorter than both Lawson and Kyle, but I can see him finding a niche somewhere

He doesn't have the height to truly dominate at the next level like he does now.

Interesting. I'll probably be skeptical of his true height until pre-draft measurements, but he does look pretty small out on the court. That link had a lot of guys taller than I thought they were.

He's a Ben Gordon clone, IMO.

He doesn't have nba 3 pt range. But i can almost guarantee he'll be a least a backup point guard with his ability to beat men off the dribble.

Kyle is a good comparison in one way, we've seen what a jumpshot has elevated him to recently, if Kemba can develop NBA range i can see him being a solid starter.

    Never a great player though

Dont know if you're serious but i agree with this. If you watch him play, you can see his game can translate into the NBA.

An inferior clone at that. Kemba Walker won't have much of an NBA future unless he becomes a deadeye shooter.

    umad?

IMO, he's the one of the best prospects in this draft as of today. He's listed at 6'1" but he's really more like 5'11"... I don't know if he'll be able to score in the NBA like he does in college (i'm sure his game will translate to a different style in the NBA anyway) but he does have ability to be a pretty good PG for his size.

As for comparing him to Lowry.... meh. Lowry is a tougher guard with more bulk. I would give speed to Kemba. Comparing him to Lawson is much more ideal but Lawson doesn't look like he has the strength that Kemba has.
