Brooks > Dragic when healthy. Don't care if people say Brooks is worse defensively, overall Brooks is a better player than Dragic when healthy. So realistically, we gave up Brooks for Dragic and a late first-round pick since Phoenix probably isn't going to make the playoffs. Maybe not as a steal as we all thought it would be. If anything, Phoenix got the better end of the deal, talent wise.
Brooks is better player when happy. I guess he really was tanking on the Rockets a la Tracy tanking on the Magic.
TALENT WISE. Not, Dragic is better than Brooks because he makes less money. Talent wise, Brooks is BETTER than Dragic.
If talent is all about scoring, yes. But talent is much more than that. Dragic can guard the 1 and 2 and be a solid playmaker. Brooks still had trouble passing to a 7'6 Yao Ming and has tunnel vision. Combined with pouting this season, i'd say no, he's not the better player. Better scorer, yes. But in hindsight of the trade, given that we WOULD NOT pay Brooks, we got a steal.
Ok. Let's see what other people think. Debateable argument you have there. But I believe you are underestimating Brooks playmaking skills. And believe it or not, Dragic is way more turnover prone than Brooks is. Both seem to over-penetrate but Brooks can get away with it most of the time because his ball-handling skills are way more superior than Dragic's is. When Dragic penetrates, he always seems to lose the handle or some sort.
You still can't teach height. Brooks would get abused by any taller PG defensively not named Dfish. Brooks is fast, but speed and wild drives into the lane for contested layups are a bad mix.
He's a good player, and I wish him the best. I'm sure he'll have a successful career. I'm glad he's gone.
I wish him well. He just needs to get his head right and play some D, maybe gain some muscle this offseason and sacrifice a small amt of quicks
he played pretty well in the LA game that went to 3 OT but do we need one of these every time he plays well? lol
I do think that Aaron Brooks is a really good player and I do hope that he can get his head on straight and have a successful career. I also think that he is a better basketball player than Dragic. That being said, I really did like the trade and feel that it was a deal which the Rockets had to make. With Brooks gone, the franchise is committing to Lowry and so far, it seems to be paying off (Lowry right now is playing better than Brooks did last year on both ends of the floor, plus he is already on a reasonable contract while keeping Brooks means paying him). I guess you can say that we traded Aaron Brooks for Goran Dragic, a future 1st and Kyle Lowry (who has been playing like a star ever since the trade). Furthermore, Dragic is on a much more reasonable contract and he seems to be more suited for a backup role than Brooks was (at least backing up Lowry. Brooks seems to be okay with backing up a future HOFer in Nash, maybe it is an accomplishments thing). And that 1st is another asset which Morey can work with (late or not, it can be included as a nice throwin to a package).
Didn't watch the game but wouldn't be surprised if it is a fatigue thing. The Suns are coming off a triple OT game last night in which Nash played 49 minutes.
