I've recently decided to get on top of my personal finances.

What I want out of my experience is essentially what Mint.com offers- an all encompassing overview of my financial profile. I considered creating a lengthy excel spread sheet that I would manually manage myself, but lets be real here....this is just easier.

My question- what has been your experiences with Mint.com and/or similar websites? What should be noted, general comments, etc.

I have been using Mint.com for a few years now and I am very pleased with it. Very easy to get a quick snapshot of your expenses and all your accounts.

This. I've been using it for a while and have really enjoyed it. I have all of my accounts on there, including my IRA and 401k. I would highly recommend it.

been using mint pretty much since its inception in 07. They are good about updating and evolving, they are secure, and it's a ton easier than the crap I used to try to do on my own.

I don't use it for budget tracking, but you can do that too. I wish they were better about categorizing certain expenses that are difficult to categorize, but I think you can "teach" the system if you want to.

edit: they also still don't have a couple of really obscure investment accounts that I own on there, but hopefully that'll change one day.. They have a crap ton of stuff though, and they add all the time based on customer input

    Great. Thank you all.

This is the general consensus I was hoping for.

It's pretty good to track overall inflows and outflows, I use it but it seems like a huge security risk. I change my password on it very frequently for that reason. Its software can be kind of buggy though; double countings etc seem to be frequent.

Don't use it to track your investment rate of return, however, that part just seems irretrievably broken. It tracks your balances but it goes haywire when it tries to track investment gain or loss.

cause it requires about 0.1% of the work because it updates automatically.

I like how it breaks down where I spend my money.

That being said, I wish they could figure out that TOYOTA CENTER is not the Toyota dealership and put it under automotive.
