Well, this is poopy. I did not sync my phone to my google account in the store when I bought this phone and after about 30 or so tries I've determined that there is something wrong with this phone that is preventing it from syncing. I took it back into the verizon store (shepard/westheimer) hoping they would either fix it or exchange it but they did neither. My only choice now is to return the phone or hope that somehow it starts working again in the next day or so. Do you all have any suggestions? I left Sprint for Verizon to buy this phone. Whatshould I do here? I can't exactly go back to Sprint and what phone will I use if I return it? I have no interest in an iphone.
Interesting to see that Verizon's LTE isn't doing much better than Sprint's WiMAX when it comes to battery life. Looks like this is going to be the next great challenge for cellphone manufacturers - finding ways to reduce 4G radio power consumption, improve battery capacity and improve overall power management. I like to use Widgetsoid - great way to put a few commonly needed switches on your home screen. The 4G, backlight, ringer and USB switches tend to be the most useful for me. The great thing about Android is that the hacker community is constantly coming up with ways to improve battery life that these manufacturers can learn from. With the custom ROMs and kernels I run on my Evo, I easily get 2x the battery life I used to get on the stock ROM. Sometimes even more.
As everyone else has said battery life on these 4G phones are terrible! I'm lucky if I get 3-4 hours on my Tbolt on a full charge. So I have to keep it hooked up at work as well. Because of this I ordered the extended battery. Let's see how much extra time that'll provide. Too bad it looks ugly as ***t though.
Is it true that the Thunderbolt doesn't give you an option to turn off 4G when you don't want it, like the Evo does?
the thing with android phones... there really isn't an instruction manual... you're best bet with this google device... google for answers... when i got my nexus s, i was a fish out of water, i didn't know what to do, but thankfully, there are websites like xda and fandroid and the googlenexuss channel on youtube to guide me along there are many easy ways to just 'wipe' your phone and start fresh, typically by holding the power button and either one of the volume buttons, i am sure the thunderbolt gang over at xda can give you a hand... http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=940
Once after installing a new ROM I found that my contacts weren't syncing at first, and soon discovered it was because for some reason the Gmail app had not been granted the necessary permissions. I recommend Googling for a solution -- you'll probably find the answer on XDA or some other Android forum.
I searched around some android forums like you suggested. I saw a trick posted that involved logging into the youtube app then syncing. Doing that I was able to add my gmail account, but it still would not access the marketplace. It's the same issue. "Can't establish a reliable connection." Looked some more on the forums and I found a tip to delete the cache of the marketplace app and restart the phone and now marketplace just crashes immediately. "an error has occured. Press ok." I will keep looking but this is not looking good. Edit: I am extremely impressed with the building penetration of lte. I get a solid 4 bars of 4g in the same spot that I couldn't even get 3g from sprint.
As I mentioned earlier. There is a "toggle" sorta. Download phone info by sc@Taiwan and go to info. From there change from cdma+lte to cdma auto prl
take it to another VZW corp store. You have every right to get a replacement, in fact. Sign in to your gmail on one of their test units to show them it's the phone. I saw on AndroidCentral that people just got their phones replaced and it works.
that is exactly why you never purchase this kind of stuff from retail stores, it's full of piss drinking monkeys that don't do jack shtt if i got that kind of treatment, i would have went columbine on those sorry b****es
Yeah, hopefully he got his phone at a corporate store. They should let you exchange it, i mean you did drop big money and you're well within the 14 day period. They might charge you a restocking free, but call Verizon through the phone afterwards and they MIGHT be able to waive it for him
They suck so much ass!!! I remember about 4 months ago I returned a phone charger back to get my money and they told me they would send a check in the mail.. Unfortunately, the check was in someone else's name other than mine and that sonofabitch deliberately did that **** on purpose.. Do those sale associate have some kind of mental problem?? What is wrong with them, do they get laid at all??
Alot of cell phone store representatives are incompetent. I had a guy tell me that Advanced Task Killer was going to make my phone so much faster. Also, don't let Verizon put that "backup assistant" garbage on your phone if you use Google to store your contacts.
Nice 4G network comparison article. http://www.cnn.com/2011/TECH/mobile/03/21/verizon.4g.wired/index.html?hpt=Sbin
The worst thing is that the manager basically did next to nothing then straight up lied to me. She said that it was a "common problem" with the new Thunderbolts and I had to wait for a fix from Google. When I asked for more on this I specifically asked "are you telling me every Thunderbolt you have sold has this problem?" She said "Yes." That really got me upset because of course thats a lie. Unfortunately, the verizon technician on the phone had the same excuse that I had to wait for google to fix it. I am really sorry I switched over to verizon from sprint at this point and will be returning the phone. Here is my question. How the heck do I cancel verizon and get my number back on sprint? Do I go to sprint first or what?
Welcome back, prodigal child. Here in the land of Sprint, when I call customer service with a complaint, they do everything they can to give me a solution, and then they call me back later on to make sure my problem has been solved. I know people still hate on Sprint, but the truth of the matter is that today Sprint Customer Service > *. Now if only they'd get around to fixing their 3G towers...
Yeah, you have to contact them first. Damn man, im sorry it didn't work out for you. Did you go to another location? or the same store. I'm on my 2nd thunderbolt and they didn't hassle me whatsoever about the reasoning. I liked Sprint when I had them , but I will NEVER go back to wi-max. I may reconsider Sprint a couple years from now if their LTE plans pan out . I also like Verizon's coverage.
