Instead of Utah taking Devin Harris, if they were willing to take lowry, battier or jefferies (whoever matches salary)and a 1st round future pick, would you have pulled the trigger on that trade if you were GM?

Only if Dwill would sign up for a new contract.

Yes. But no chance that this package approaches what NJ gave up.

i know Utah got harris and favors. Neither one is that great but I guess harris + favors is better than lowry plus expiring contract.

Heck yeah I would have. I love Lowry but he is not bringing anyone else along with him that's a superstar. The DHoward's of the world are not trying to have him as their number 2 player.

Nothing against Lowry, but he has to maintain this high level of play for much, much longer for the league to start recognizing him as an all-star PG.

Lowry is probably my favorite player on this team, but I would still do this trade in a heartbeat (assuming Deron would stay).

utah got harris, favors, the nets pick this year, and the warriors pick next year.

why would they pass on that for lowry, battier, and the rockets pick?

to make this an even/fair question lets say lowry, patterson, cap filler, rockets 2011 first, magic's 2011 first, knicks 2012 first, future grizz first.

even then, im not sure 4 future first rounders can compete with 2 lotto picks, plus favors having more upside than patterson, and harris being a more proven starter than lowry. in short, even the rockets very best offer comes up short of what utah got from the nets.

I agree at that time that NJ is offered a better deal. But if Lowry had been playing at his current level all season long, then I think Utah would definitely have considered it with Patterson in the mix too.

What are you talking about Favors is a kid and already does things you can not teach. He has so much upside. He is the definition of upside. Lowry is playing the best in his career. But make no mistake about it Adelman's system has so much to do with that. The league know players are never as good as they were with Adelman.

Harris and Favors and a couple of first is by far better than anything we could offer. Not to mention if we were offering what NJ offered Utah would not have done the deal because they wanted him out of the west. So the answer to your question albeit never even remotely possible of happening is an absolute yes. But rather a waste of a question nonetheless.

Sorry- I had the kids distracting me in mid thought and then didn't check what I had typed. lol

I was saying- if Lowry was playing at his current level, then I think the Jazz would have to have given this type of offer serious consideration, especially if we threw in Patterson too.

Stop mentioning that the Nets deal was better, of course it was and the OP fully realizes this. Read the post and thread title.

The question is, if this would have been accepted by the Jazz would you do it?

At the moment the trade was offered I would have said a definite yes, but hindsight with Lowry playing as well as he has been I actually dont think I would. If Lowry can manage to keep playing at the level that he is, his contract is an absolute steal and allows us to spend that money on upgrading elsewhere. It was mentioned elsewhere by someone but there are so many great PGs in the NBA right now (even though Dwill is probably top 3, behind Rose and maybe Paul), the drop off to Lowry isn't that significant in my opinion.

    Yeah this.

Not only that there is a good chance that Dwill...will bolt from Houston just like he may from the Nets.

I voted yes ultimately, but I want a strong commit from Deron at least verbally that he's going to stick around and help try to bring another superstar here.

Hell yes, and I wouldn't even give it a second thought.

Lowry is playing at a very high level right now, and I absolutely love the guy, but Deron Williams is a better PG and adds the "star" element that can give other big time players a reason to come here.
