As many of you know, I am somewhat a big fan of Rockets novelties. Some years ago, I came across a Chuck Nevit jersey on ebay. Ended up passing it up, which I have regrets about.

    Today, I come across this:

    http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=m570&_nkw=nimphius+rockets

I was pretty excited, as I remember Kurt Nimphius. Problem is, I don't remember him every playing for the Rockets.

I checked Clutchfans, Basketball Reference, Wikipedia and a few other sites and none of them show him ever being a member of the Rockets, much less playing in a game.

So, I am perplexed. Anyone have a clue here? These look like legitimate jerseys, but I can't find anything anywhere to confirm him being on the roster.

Wonder if we signed him before the season but he never made it to the actual team in 89-90 and that's what's left of him? Like preseason roster or something. I don't see him on the actual roster, and his stats show his last year in NBA was 89-90.

Track him down and ask him. It's not like he's big time and has people to go through. Heck, if you're nice enough, you might be able to ship it to him, ship him pre-paid packaging and a sharpe, and have him autograph it and send it to you.

Damn, dude, I don't think Chuck Nevitt even owns a Chuck Nevitt jersey!

FYI : Nimphius was on the Rockets' training camp roster once. Don't ask me how I know this - I know. *stares*

And if you want to ask him yourself here's his LinkedIn profile : http://www.linkedin.com/pub/kurt-nimphius/4/980/915

Doh! I didn't think about training camp. That has to be it.

Doubt that Nimphius is hocking his own stuff.

The same seller also has a Rockets Dave Jamerson jersey:

False advertising on that. Was definitely never "game used". ;)

Man, after looking it up, I just realized Chuck Nevitt and Kurt Nimphius were both on the Pistons team in '86-'87. Kurt was #41 and Chuck was #42. lol.

BTW, it's interesting that the auction says it's an 89-90 jersey. Here's evidence of Nimphius being signed to the training camp roster in October 1991 :

Here's evidence he was waived 2 weeks later :

Yeah, but does the word "Sean" appear anywhere in there? It could be some guy whose name was "Elliott" used the jersey in a game down the street. All it says is it's a "game used jersey elliott". LOL. Ebay can be a cruel, cruel, place... :(

I don't think the seller knows the players well. He doesn't have many of the first names in the description, just last names and #s. I would think someone "unloaded" these on him and he is trying to get what he can for them.

Sean Elliott wore #32 for the Spurs. Description says 93-94. I would think this was one of the jerseys issued to Elliott before the trade fell through.

Regardless, for whoever buys it, one unique piece of Rockets history no?

Yeah, but I'd like it to be a real piece of Rockets history, and who knows, this could really be a Sean Elliott Rockets jersey. Robert Horry apparently had his Pistons jersey framed and hung in his bedroom and used it as motivation :

Anyone seen a Sampson jersey? That would be really cool! I could use it to pitch a tent in the backyard. ;-)

Some dude is printing letters of whatever name on vintage jerseys... and thinks he can fool the most die-hard Rockets' fan. Not me, of course.
    Adrian Caldwell?

    Chuck Nevitt?

    Tree Rollins?

Charles Barkley (maybe two blankets out of that one)...
