Didn't we almost experience the same feat? The Cavs are playing better. The Knicks need Nash. They have two players who don't play defense and have an undersized center. Fields-Budinger Anthony-Martin Billups-Lowry Amare-Scola Turiaf-Hayes The Knicks are a Rich mans Rockets team. Comparison. Point guards that can play defense, two great scorers who are allergic to defense, two young players who have been steals for late second round picks and two undersized centers who play good defense but can't protect the paint like good defenses do.
Yes, the Knicks suck just like the Rockets, maybe worse. They are 0-4 against the Rockets and Cavaliers. Rockets are 4-1 against the Knicks and Cavaliers. The Knicks are more talented but are coached poorly.
Who'd of thought just a few weeks ago, that both the Knicks and Rockets could be in the playoffs... But it's becoming a relevant issue again As it is I think they have about the same record. But the Knicks are in the playoffs, the Rockets are outside looking in. That ability to switch draft picks might pay a little bit of dividend. Wow, Rockets are playing amazing..
The records are virtually even (Rockets 36-34 vs. Knicks 35-33). I think most of us gave up on the pick switch having any value, but it still could.
Haha ya. If we make the playoffs AND our record is better than the Knicks, we'll move up 1 spot. If Philidelphia ends up with a better record than the Knicks and we end up with a better record than Philidelphia (while, of course, making the playoffs), we'll move up 2 spots. And we won't end up with a better record than Atlanta so moving up 3 spots is out of the question.
Morey and Walsh don't seem to target the same players in the draft, so 1-2 position switch isn't very valuable.
Who pissed in y'all's cornflakes, guys? Teams sometimes trade future first round picks for the right to move up a couple of spots in the first round. They sure as hell trade second rounders and/or cash to do so. Stop pissing in MY cornflakes with these pessimistic views of a possible benefit the Rockets might receive. Just because we're not getting the #2 pick of the draft doesn't mean you've got to hate on that pick swap.
The lower NY is, the more likely they screw up in the draft. The 2012 pick still has the potential for some value if Anthony, Stoudemire, and Fields can't get any help.
This is a good point. I almost forgot we still own NY's pick next year. So the worse the Knicks do, the better for us. This is another reason why we need to get into the playoffs and get as "bad" a pick position as we can and swap that pick with them. And let's hope the Knicks do bad the rest of the season. I said it before, the irony of all this is, there is a chance that we end up with a better record than the Knicks but still have a higher pick if we fail to get into the playoffs. This is the difference between playing in the West and playing in the East.
I'm pretty sure it's a metaphor but it sounds like you're saying everyone who post on here is pissing. And if they are not in agreement with you than they are pissing in your cornflakes. So everyone should stop disagreeing with you or have a different point of view than you. Do I understand you correctly? Or is there someone actually standing in front of you pissing in your cornflakes and you want them to stop. If so, are you still going to eat the cornflakes when they stop?
All I'm saying is that, after everyone wrote off the pick swap as "worthless," for people to downplay the fact that the Rockets can still possibly see SOME benefit from that swap right, it just strikes me as a very negative mentality that in no way adds to any meaningful discussion at this point. It's not like Morey should have turned down the swap right (New York could not offer their 2011 pick outright, plus Morey got as little protection on it as he possibly could), and it's not like the Rockets aren't also getting a future pick from New York (they are getting their 2012 pick, also with very limited protection). The Rockets have done everything they can to help the picks' value (having beaten the Knicks in both meetings this season and even trading a future first rounder to New Jersey to help them try to outbid the Knicks for Melo). To hate on the pick swap at this point is completely and utterly pointless. Just my opinion, though. You and everybody else are free to have yours. So stop pissing in my cornflakes!
Yep. If the Rockets had had the right to move up ONE spot in 2006 (from 8 to 7), they would have been able to select Randy Foye and to complete their pre-arranged trade with Minnesota for Brandon Roy. To use an even more obscure example, if the Grizzlies had the right to move up one spot in 2008 (from 28 to 27), they would not have had to trade the Rockets their 2009 second rounder to swap picks to select Darrell Arthur. In turn, the Rockets would not have had that high second rounder to use in dumping Steve Francis's contract on Memphis several months later, potentially costing Les Alexander and the Rockets several million dollars in salary, tax and shared revenues. With those additional losses, perhaps Les doesn't sign off on buying a THIRD second rounder in the 2009 draft, costing the Rockets the chance to draft Chase Budinger. Don't tell me that being able to move up even 1-2 spots in the draft isn't beneficial.
The pick swap thing was simply a gamble-- buying a lotto ticket that might pay off handsomely but most likely will not give you a big payoff. I recall that Morey said it when the trade was made that he didn't expect the Knicks to be totally terrible, but want to be able to take advantage of it if they are (due to, for example, injuries to important players). He was simply finding a way where the Rockets could have a higher draft pick than their own record would allow.
Except that they didn't even buy it. It was GIVEN to them. Now, people are complaining that the ticket didn't pay off big. I will admit that I contributed to the high expectations by predicting that the Knicks could possibly be picking in the 6-9 range. But a lot went right for New York this season . . . a lot. And they STILL have basically the same record as a mediocre Rockets team.
