If you're going to be an alarmist, much easier and eerily gratifying to try to predict major earthquakes than the apocalypse. For a more immediate during your lifetime "I told you so".

Yes California is due for a big one 8.0 and over. There hasnt been one that big in over 200 years. The 1906 San Francisco earthquake was most deadliest in recorded history. It was officially a 7.9 quake. 3,000 people dead, with what would be $9.5 billion dollars of damage in today's money.

More people would die now if the same thing happened, because the population is more dense. Building codes have been updated as well, but there's just more stuff and more people now. If California gets the same 8.9 Japan got, eeeks....California is NOT adequately prepared for a tsunami. Though not like anyone is.

Hurricanes are plenty bad on their own. But you can see a hurricane coming now

I've seen on discovery channel that California has been due for a major earth quake for quiet a while now. So not really surprise by this. I do hope California takes some sort of precaution, if there are some serious indications that a major earthquake is coming pretty soon...

First crazy, beligerent protestors started spreading in the world, then crazy earth moving events starting to spread around the pacific. . .

If I was in California,...I would get out and perhaps never go back. It' suppose to separate (literally) at some point anyways.

Only a few hours to go, looks like this guy was wrong.

I'm actually in Colombia right now, just realized that it's also on the Ring of Fire.

I've learned to stop believing in these crazy predictions by "renowned" or "famous" [insert professional title here]. If you could predict earthquakes, you would be a very rich man by now.

What most of these guys are doing are searching for patterns, there are no patterns with mother nature. Weird **** goes down all the time, and none of it is predictable.

High tide in San Francisco is about noon and midnight Pacific time. If it has to do with tides, I would guess it would happen sometime around them.

It's cloudy today, I'd rather my earth quake happen on a sunny day.

Oh, so the prediction is now "there's gonna be a earthquake in California sometime soon." ????

    That's funny.

I'm gonna predict that there's gonna be a bunch of snow in Alaska this winter.

Well, there was some snow in the area today, and that's weird -- does that count?

If there really was an earthquake now, it would be extra wacky because everything is so waterlogged. Raining hard again now and we're way beyond average rainfall.

Actually, one of our cats is acting very strangely, and I give that more credence than this retired geologist dude.
