The term "fool's gold" has been used too much. It seems like everything that doesn't give you a championship is a fool's gold these days. Well, there are 29 fool's gold teams in th NBA each year.
Thanks mom, but I already replied to that in my first post (beggars can't be choosers). I just thought the Ben Wallace was odd, I would have said Billups if he's trying to stay current. As for the thread, personally I don't think it's as much a good argument as a very obvious thread with very obvious holes. Draft a superstar is the best way huh? Well, I'm sure every draft is just teeming with lebrons, Derrick Roses, etc. that we should just have a fire sale and make our team as low cost and pitiful as possible.
I dont care how its done. Build through draft, trade, or free agency. Just as long as the Rockets explore every way and then have the good sense to know when to pull the trigger if a opportuniy arises. If it comes out of some other way to get players for a championship run? Thats what I want.
Ok, I give in... We can get a SuperStar. But all 67 previous posters are gonna have to take care of him. Feed him... Clean up after him... Take him for walks...make sure he has fresh water. And give him baths. I'm not going to put up with a stinky SuperStar in the house. Everyone agree??... Ok, lets go pick one we like. Poster #1 gets shotgun. zzpot puff puff
I disagree here. The lineup you proposed may look good on paper(at least to Rockets fans), but there's a decidedly lack of scoring ability. Teams would have very little problem coming up with defensive schemes to guard that lineup. If that team's not tankable, as in able get close to .500, then that means one of those players rose to star caliber. Or two of them rose to near-star level caliber. In which case, I'd actually propose trading Martin and Scola so we can add some more picks for free. And also free up so much cap room that we'd be able to fit DWill and DH here with a .500 ballclub.
Kobe said he'd only play for the Lakers. He came in as a rookie. People missing my point by the way. It's not that you have to tank and get into the draft - that's the wrong conclusion. It's that you have to get a superstar when they are really young. You can get it in a draft day trade - it doesn't matter if you draft him directly or otherwise....or just before they blossom into a star - like Phoenix did with KJ. We don't have a superstar to build around. When we had Yao - acquiring more super stars made sense. Now, I don't think it does. I am not saying we tank. i am saying we figure out how to get some top picks or make a draft day deal to get a top pick so we can have a shot at getting a super star. It's a crapshoot - but it's a better gamble than trying to build a team through free agency. You get older stars. That works when you are adding them to a Paul Pierce, Dawyne Wade, or Tim Duncan - but it won't work when you don't got that. That's why NY will fail to become a legit contender - mark my words. You gotta to have a young superstar to build around. That's why I am so glad we didn't get Carmelo Anthony. He's already too old for us.
Sorry you missed the whole point, because that's not my argument. It's not that drafting a superstar is the best way - read the post above. Nor did I say we should have a fire sale and just start over. Geez, you people just spin everything the way you want.
***You're. And I might add that that was meant to be sarcastic. Sometimes though...fool's gold has it's place on winning teams!
