Berkland must be behind on his taxes, and April 15th is fast arriving. So, he had to make a prediction.

So ToyCen, if this earthquake doesn't happen. Will you stop with the conspiracy theories? If it does happen, I will subscribe to your blog. Deal?

Did you seriously just call bobrek a douchebag? I think you're the one who needs to calm the f*** down.

So if you were the news director at fox, you're telling me that you would withhold the information because YOU yourself feel that it unnecessarily fosters fear?

I have no idea if this guy is right or wrong, but if I lived on the west coast, I'd probably leave town on that day because even if it doesn't happen I'd rather be safe than sorry.

note that even his incredible World Series earthquake prediction, he was off by 4 days. So, don't bother leaving town on any specific day.

Also, on his website, he predicts multiple earthquakes each month. And there probably are multiple earthquakes each month in Cali and Japan, just not big ones.

I'll be deep sea fishing off the San Diego coast on Saturday. Hope it doesn't cause me to lose a catch.

When someone says they haven't "seen many reports" and I point out that numerous web sites have reported about the situation in Hawaii and just because they haven't seen them doesn't mean they don't exist, if that makes me condescending, so be it.

Does it also make me an "Internet douchbag"?

What about this guy? He sure comes across as condescending:

If you guys have an earthquake my sympathy will be less because of your "weather reports".

Again, I'm not claiming belief here, only saying that I'd prepare for one just to make sure I was prepared.

It's like the weather report. Guy says it's gonna a rain and it ends up being hot and sunny that day. Weather is an imperfect science. So I don't see why a guy that predicts earthquakes is seen as a quack (if that's the term you'd use), while weathermen are accepted.

Again, I am not on a crusade for this guy or anything, my only argument is just based on logical reasoning of why one thing is accepted and the other thing is not. I'm just glad that somebody is trying to wrap science around this thing.

This might seem silly to some people, but it's a more reasonable thing to say than an earthquake is going to hit this Saturday.

Short term predictions are almost invariably wrong, but more general long term predictions are right a lot of the time. The thing is, you need a long period of time to accurately surmise the general moment in which an earthquake will strike... which is why it's so absurd to simply estimate that it will strike on a Saturday. California, especially L.A., has been a long time waiting for the "big one" to hit, and chances are it will hit soon. If not this Saturday, then almost assuredly within, perhaps, the next 30 years.

That is, unless there's new technology that no one outside of the tight-knit geology world is aware of.

I'm not sure how logical the reasoning is. Find me any seismologist that can predict when the next quake will hit even one day in advance. Weathermen are generally accurate in terms of temperatures (as an example) one day in advance.

actually, i kind of believe that it will hit on saturday. i heard this on the day the quake hit, which was march 11. they said in between the next 30 years, and march 19 is in between 2011 and 2041. so actually, this guy could be right.

I'd say there's probably a 100% chance of an earthquake in California. Probably in the next 24-48 hours too!

Shows earthquakes in California during the last hour/day/week. Of course, all pretty minor. Though California probably is due for major one.
