This guys ceiling is higher than Landry's...and I freaking love Carl. PatPat has the length, the width, and the defensive presence that Landry just couldn't have at his size. I love how we are watching him grow up game by game.
I'm chuckling a little remembering when someone was miffed DM didn't draft Larry Sanders. I know, I know...Hindsight is 20/20 but who would've thought PPat would be such a steal. I remember when they drafted him, I was a little dubious but he's completely won me over now. I am not worthy, Morey.
Actually I still put the Spurs ahead of the us by a small margin. Almost of all their recent drafts have been keepers (Blair, Stephen Neal, George Hill), while we whiffed out a bit on our wing evaluations like Donte Greene (inferior to Batum), Jermaine Taylor (inferior to C-bud), and the Kraken (complainer).
Agreed. I'm skeptical Patterson has the athleticism or agility to be a superstar type PF, but he does show flashes, so we will see. Right now I think he ends up being a very good all-around player, maybe even making the all-star team a couple of seasons, but I'm not seeing much chance of a superstar type ceiling.
Best offensive rookie? Top-3 scorer? I'd hate to be devil's advocate here, let's not overrate Patterson already. Yes, he's played efficiently, showed a lot of hustle, and has a high ceiling, but he hasn't played consistently enough (or even gotten consistent playing time) to be considered anything near the top offensive rookie this year, especially considering Blake Griffin and John Wall. As for top 3 scorer, I hope he actually means a third option on a winning team, not one of the top 3 scorers in the league. The former scenario is very possible, though seems a little low for his ceiling. The latter. . . is really a stretch.
i agree regarding the malone comparison. patterson is just like karl malone, except for a few things: he doesn't set illegal picks in conference finals and get away with it, he isn't a member of the NRA, and he isn't a terrible father. in all seriousness though, they're games and body types are very similar. that's why i suggested a while back that patterson's nickname be "the postman". this nickname one-ups "the mailman", which honestly sounds friendly and harmless.. patrick "the postman" patterson owns the post, sounds like something threatening and immovable, which is what patterson will soon be. he's not just gonna deliver your mail like that patsy in utah.. he's gonna take your mail, shove it violently in your mailbox, and then rip your mailbox out of the ground, and angrily smack you over the head with it. the postman.
