It was an honest opinion but it came off extremely crass, and he picked the wrong guy to rag on. Sure, Hill's father's success in the NFL set the stage for him to go to better schools and get more opportunities, but he's never showcased that upper-class sense of entitlement, and he's never been some hustler out on the court trying to get his, he's always been a team player and a class act.

Jalen Rose has been sitting in a chair wearing a suit for a few years now, getting paid 6 figures to talk about basketball (poorly) with the same idiot grin on his face.

Grant Hill, meanwhile is still in the NBA, after overcoming a myriad of setbacks and horrible injuries, still out there on the court every night giving it his all.

That really tells you all you need to know about who has the right to talk ****.

Maybe if Rose was rehabbing for 40% of his career he'd have fresh legs too.

You're joking right? You make it sound like rehab after major surgery is all fun and games. Try going through it multiple times.

40% of his career is incorrect. 30% was closer.

Hll has started in over 900 games. Rose started in 572. Hill has had a better career, imo..

He always says idiotic stuff. No one compares to Bruce Bowen and his bow ties though.

I think he's a sub-par basketball analyst. He's never said anything moderately insightful most of the times I've listened to him.

"Boo-Hoo I had to struggle to get a scholarship because my daddy wasn't a running back for the Cowboys."

Sounds like things turned out pretty well for you, Jalen.

LOL at defending Jalen Rose or the antics of the fab (but sucked and mostly illegal) five. Good for Grant Hill for creating an eloquent response that went right over some of your heads.

Grant Hill >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Jalen Rose. Probably on every level of life.

come on. ease up. Rose and King were talking about what they thought as teenagers, even before going to Michigan.

Several in this thread already explained. Here is King explaining, as well (posted 45 minutes ago):

I don't think anyone is saying Jalen is better than Hill or that defending what Jalen said. I'm just saying I respect Jalen for saying exactly what they thought. If he didn't say anything (No one ever thought The Five had such angry toward Duke players) the documentary would have been less of a story IMHO.

Watch the 1st and 10 segment from ESPN First Take. You have to be a gullible fool if you think Jimmy King and Jalen are backing off their unbelievably pathetic and ignorant opinions. Black men are not "Uncle Toms" for attending Duke University, regardless of whether they're playing basketball. God forbid that there are individuals out there who want to go to a great academic institution and play basketball for a great coach and program. Rose and King don't deserve to have their voices heard. To congratulate them for being being honest is like congratulating John Wilkes Booth for being a good shot.

Up until recently, I couldn't stand Duke because I believed they are a bunch of flopping, whining, over-glorified group of average basketball players supported by a bunch of nerds. While I don't entirely back off those views (sorry, I'm a Wake Forest alum), I have a newly-discovered respect for them. Duke players are not "ME-ME-ME Guys." You don't see them dogging it on the court. Can you imagine how much better many NBA teams would be if their guys gave the same effort Duke players do on a nightly basis? You don't hear about Duke players taking money under the table while at their university (Webber). You don't see them getting arrested. Dudes aren't perfect people by any stretch of the imagination, but if you're looking at the complete body of professional and collegiate athletes in this country, Duke basketball players are certainly among the minority who have real heads on their shoulders and care more about winning together than self-promotion or boasting their achievements.

Kudos to Duke for recruiting modest, selfless, high character, high basketball IQ guys, REGARDLESS OF THE COLOR OF THEIR SKIN. And kudos to coach K for getting the most out of his players. You can make a great argument that Jalen Rose had more basketball and athletic talent than Shane Battier. Give me guys like Shane 10 times out of 10 on my basketball team. If you disagree with that statement you've not been watching the Rockets the last 5 years and seen the impact that Shane Battier had on this team.

And to Jimmy King, Jalen Rose, or anyone else out there who brings up race or culture to bring down those who do things the RIGHT WAY just because you are bitter -- this country and this world would be a better place without people like you. Your excuses for your situations (but to be honest, can these guys really still have chips on their shoulders?) are a cancer. I'll have some more Grant Hill, please.

He just sounds like a jealous little b****, thats my problem with it.

Everybody has to overcome obstacles. Grant faced injury troubles and had to reinvent his game to stay a good player.

You play the hand you're dealt and stop whining.

of course it's all fun and games. Remember that time when he almost died due to an infection? that was hilarious. I've never seen him and his family laugh so hard.

Neither man was wrong. Jalen stated how he felt "as a kid". Just being honest. I really don't think Grant had anything to respond to. Jalen obviously realized that he was wrong in his initial assesment.

Some of you guys are ridiculous. If you watched the documentary, Rose was reflecting on his feelings towards Grant Hill and other Duke players when he was an 18 YEAR OLD KID. What is so unnatural about an underprivileged kid being jealous of another kid who grew up lucky? A smart man like Grant should realize any 18 year old kid from Jalen's background would feel that way.

Great job, Grant. You pwned an immature 18 year old kid from like 20 years ago. But everyone thinks you are a brilliant class act without even looking at the context of the situation.

Why would people say Rose 'has balls' or 'it was honest' as if he was brave or lessens the idiocy of what he said. People say stupid things everyday in person or on TV or anywhere else. I'm not giving them more props just because they let me know how dumb they are.

That was an incredibly well stated response by Hill. Well done.

So basically, Jalen Rose was an idiot when he was 18 and still is and Grant Hill is still winning at life.

    Jalen sounds like a hater.

Seems like their both winning in life. Both are Millionaires doing what want. One just had issues as a young man. Nobody's perfect.
