Brooks was usually on the other side of the court to where Yao was. That's quite telling on what the coaches thought about Aaron's ability in that area.
When Yao was fronted?? I don't remember anybody getting the ball to Yao easily when fronted, because he was too slow.
Well, to be brutally honest, it is very hard to pass the ball to Yao when you're short with poor passing skill and low BBIQ like AB. Fronting Yao only works when the pass comes from the corner. If we quickly moves the ball to the top of the key, the defense gets exposed. Yao will be blocking out "their" center, Martin/Lowry/Lee/Bud can just drive it in, or pass to Yao for a dunk.
Everyone has a hard time getting the ball to ANY player when they're fronted. We're talking when about when Yao is NOT being fronted. However, even when Yao is fronted, the rim is left unprotected. In fact, when Yao is fronted, all it takes is a little ball movement, swinging the ball to the other side, to get the ball to Yao. Here is an example, which consists of a player called Lowry not demanding the ball but instead spacing the floor. <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/Tby2liTX6JQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Ben Wallace dominated the Lakers in the 04 finals and put up worse numbers than those. Stick to your ESPN highlight reels, we're discussing basketball here.
i guess you missed the rockets vs jazz series in 07. The stagnant posessions on the offensive end seemed like they'd never end. I don't think game 3 is ever going to escape my memory. Fronting has been a problem for a LONG time with Yao, I don't know what you're talking about. T-Mac was probably the best at getting him the ball out of all of them, probably because he was the best one on one player.
ben wallace was also DPOY and one of the best team defenders. You're forgetting that pistons team is probably the only team lacking a true superstar, and 4 lead players that contributed close to equally. I was in detroit at the time and a big pistons fan as well, don't make superficial comparisons.
he overstated his position, but his comparison regarding the disparity is obvious, and yes both of you are correct. He was amazing game 1, as anyone could possibly be, because he wasn't fronted. He made nate look like a fool after that.
yet our record and efficiency offensively seem to speak otherwise after both these players were gone .
AB still a Rocket on his twitter He doesn't look happy in Phoenix. I bet he'd rather be sporting the red instead of this ridiculous purple orange crap they have here. Really hope he finds his game back with the suns. Got to feel for they guy.
Why should we judge him on he did last year? I would have no issues with him if he repeated the same performance this year. Does it take a whole seaon to recover from an ankle injury? Its all about what he did yesterday and today. Isnt it abundantly clear by now that our 2nd unit runs much better without his ball stopping, shot missing, sulking and whinging ways? Good riddance. Finally!!!! Lets move on.
Man, just watching that clip reminded me how much I miss the big fella.. sigh I really do hope he finally gets to 100% and gives it one more try, and finally succeeds!
He shouldn't look happy - he's seeing tens of millions evaporate before his eyes this season. He was probably hoping to see a $40-$50M (lifetime) contract happen....and instead is probably eyeballing $10-20M.
Plainly put-- We measure success with championships. While Brooks is certainly gifted and was my favorite rocket, along with Scola, he was more expendable due to the circumstances of his upcoming contract (sell high not low)and for the sake of the team's future. Lowry has become the more versatile pg this team needs. We also needed the defense that Martin occasionally does not bring. Brooks will sulk if not given the starter minutes. He was to be a contributing factor along side Yao Ming. However, there is no Ming Yao to compliment; get the picture??
Of course fronting is a problem. I even stated that in my initial post. I was responding in regards to Brooks not passing the ball to Yao even when he wasn't being fronted. We didn't figure out how to overcome Yao fronting when JVG was here. So I guess you missed the point of my post, as usual.
Yeah and Yao was the best center in the NBA, way to miss the point. The point was that you don't judge how dominant one is by looking at points.
