No way. If somebody's already punching you, you should be able to defend yourself without ramifications. If they suspended the fat kid for a reason like that, that school should apologize.

I'd rather things be like the old days, where these two kids would agree to fight at 3:30 somewhere off campus.

They'd go to said location and fight it out. Chances are, they'd be friends afterwards. That's how it was with the kids I went to school with, anyway.

I agree. There are those who would argue that the body slam went beyond just "defending" oneself. The school isn't obligated to please everyone, but they are best served not picking one side or the other when violence is involved. They gave the appropriate punishment without condoning an escalation to the violence. You don't have to agree, but I doubt you are in position to make these calls for a large organization.

The school did pick one side. The punishments weren't close to being equal.

But if you drop the gloves, you'll spend some time in the box. Sometimes it's still the right thing to do.

So did the overweight kid didn't get charges pressed against him by the bully's family or did that turn out to false?

If they suspended the kid for a reason other than "we will not tolerate violence--even reciprocal violence" like "investigation is still pending" or "it would be in the best interest of the other children to not see the children involved in the incident," then, I'd be OK with it but saying "reciprocal violence" is unacceptable and punishable strips away a person's right to defend himself. If there's an argument for the kid going beyond self-defense, then, it should be investigated but don't yield just because there's a dissenting opinion.

Good for them. If they wanted to take a realistic stance on this they ought to make 'ol Zangief there the National Spokesman for Standing-the-F**k-Up for Yourself.

Then go home with bruises, and before you know it, both sides' parents are at the school shouting at the principal?

I don't think that works that well either

That p***y skinny kid would never go near the big kid without his punk ass friends as his backup, do you really think he will go into a one on one brawl with a guy twice his size.

I've had my fair share of fights as a kid, but for some reason this type of fights usually end well.

I made an appointment (lol) to fight this punk at the hills behind school and I remember I kept trying to trip or slam him into a river (quite deep) right next/under the hill. Didn't work, I didn't even remember any of the martial arts training I learned, and the fight ended in a stalemate. No hard feelings, we'd nod each other every time we crossed paths since then.

Other fights where we just duke it out then and there usually end with bitter feelings. Luckily I've never lost a fight, cus I'd pick my fights and know not to pick on the dude twice my height and weight. this kid is just a raging idiot, Even with his tough guy friend watching.
