Yep, posted it in the other thread. I think people see the 12 blocks and think WOW but unless you watched some of the game, you really don't get a feel of how he accomplished it. Honestly, only saw some of it myself, after seeing twitter going off after his 7th or 8th block, and was impressed but kind of felt much like McHale felt in the video.
LOL, deadspin deems it the "second worst triple double of all time" after only Ricky "shoot at my own rim" Davis. http://deadspin.com/#!5782475/javale-mcgee-and-the-second-worst-triple+double-ever
BTW, triple-double is one of the most meaningless "achievements" in basketball. If a guy had 20 pts, 9 rebounds, and 9 blocks, did he achieve less than a guy who got 10 pts, 10 rebounds, and 10 blocks? The elevation from 9 to 10 is so arbitrary.
This. the 12 blocks is the only impressive part about his stat-line, albeit very impressive. A starting center getting 11 points (and doing so in garbage time) and 12 rebounds is nothing to write home about. Mcgee is putting up very good numbers this year in only 26 mpg. 2nd in block shots and scoring at a good %. He's be a real asset to a team with a low post scorer.
Part of the problem is a lot of young guys want to make highlights and look flashy by swatting the ball as hard as they can.
Ohh so his fault for blocking shots and not getting the rebounds too. Ah ok that makes perfect sense. Apparently he has no teammates that could have hustled up to grab the ball. Puzzled I am.
When you go for every block shot and leave the weakside exposed, it leads to offensive rebounds, of which chicago got 20. I didn't see this but I read this morning some of his blocks/attempts came on the perimeter on jumpers, he should have been in the paint and STAYED there. Look 12 blocks is impressive, no doubt, but from what I saw, he started going after everything leaving his team mates out to dry against KURT THOMAS and Taj Gibson...who tore them apart on the boards.
Check and see if these critics of McGee are slurping up Kevin Love in other threads. What you watched from McGee has been season long from Love.
I'm not criticizing his blocking and rebounding, but come on, those clips of him trying desperately to score in the last 3 minutes are basically Ricky Davis-level embarrassing. How you get to a 10-10-10 game matters, and "taking over" on offense (and failing at that) in garbage time with your team down 20 is part of how you get there. By the same token of course, the Wilt 100 point game, with the Warriors fouling repeatedly in the last few minutes just to get him 100 and both teams abandoning any semblance of defense, was probably also as painful to watch, but no tapes exist so we don't have to see it. though I still think Magee's a good young player, FWIW.
I wish they would publish 1-game PER, I have a feeling the former would score way higher than the latter.
I was just referring to the rebounds. i hadn't seen your post and didn't know about the desperate attempt at the tenth point.

I believe only 1 was blocked out of bounds... and not even directly out of bounds. On his blocks the bulls gathered only one offensive rebound.

Jesus Christ, what's with these Triple double whores on the Wizard team. First, it's this clown. <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/lDzRvZcFn48" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Someone needs to give these guys a talk that team winning > stats
Never understood the hate some players get, for giving 110% effort to get a triple double when the game is almost over. Look, when Blatche tried hard to get that 10th reb, I agree, I think he should not have shown so much frustration towards his teammate, because all he did was catch the ball that came to him. Yesterday we saw JaVale fighting hard for that 10th point in Garbage time..... WHAT IS THE PROBLEM WITH THAT??? If you ask me if that triple double was the most spectacular one I have ever seen, the answer is obvious, but I don´t hate him for putting himself in a position to fail (trying post moves and shots he never takes), just to have a triple double. I think fans don´t understand how it works in a losing franchise. When your team loses, players have to have some motivation. Kevin Martin said it best, is motivation in Sac town was that all he had to do was score, nothing more. Kevin Love double-double streak, don´t you think the teammates didn´t try to help him???? Look when players put individual stats before the team goals, we have a problem, but when all they do is go hard in the paint just for a rebound or a point, when the game is almost over, whats the problem???? For me as a fan, it is not important, but for a player, that needs confidence in order to perform at a hight level, I applaud and encourage the will that makes them try some moves or actions during the game that they never did before. If you ask me, is JaVale a better player in my eyes just because of the triple double??? No, I thought he was a stud that in the right situation might be a DPOY kind of player, and I still think he is (could be) that player. But do I think this was important for him??? I think it encourages him to be a better player, all he needs now is a winning situation, and believe me, if he is a smart dude, he will never fight for that extra point, he will take those Ws and forget his stat line. looooooooooooooooool at those people that blame JaVale for those 15 rebs Kurt Thomas got (going just to contest the shots and keep the glass open for O rebs, just look at the video someone posted), I guess the fact that your 2nd best rebounder behind McGee is you starting PG isn´t important.
