Ideal PG is a supterstar PG. It doesn't require an ideal PG to win championship. But visualize as 'ideal PG' is not AB's problem. AB's problem is he has too many holes in his game. For every one thing he does well, you can find 3 things he does poorly. That doesn't help most of the teams to win unless he's in the absolute right situation. This Rockets team doesn't fit that.
i think rondo is what you can call an ideal PG, Parker is what you consider an ideal PG. whens the last time a superstar shoot-first type PG led a team to a title.. if you had one superstar on your team PG is the last spot i would want my superstar to be.. lowry would thrive on a team like boston, he would just have to run the offense & knock down the open jumper. everything else is a plus, his D and his rebounding..
What people forget about Brooks is that he was not a good shooter. He could shoot the 3 well, but he can't finish around the basket and he doesn't have the knack for getting to the line. His biggest advantage over Lowry(last year version) was that he could shoot in volume, whereas Lowry's lack of outside shot prevent him from doing the same. Brooks showed his absolute peak in the Lakers series and last season because we started Battier and Ariza/Artest at the wing positions. Artest, despite how much I love him, was a mediocre offensive player as a Rocket. Battier has long been a nothing on offense besides spreading the floor. And we all remember Ariza. But then comes in Kevin Martin, who does everything Brooks does exponentially better. Hence, Lowry became the better fit as a starter. And the offense became #5 in the league. Brooks put up great individual numbers. But on a team that doesn't require 20 points from the PG position, he's less valuable becaue he can't do anything else.
You can always count on irrational, consistent hate of former rockets. I guess plenty of people were hating AB before he was traded, but the hate on his game post-trade is ridiculous.
Oh, is that what a double team is??? It's been a long time since I saw the games, but I will just repeat myself - once they double-teamed or fronted Yao, he didn't produce. He certainly didn't dominate, ahole.
Of the teams you listed, the guard combo that they have is a much stronger combo than Lowry and Brooks. Just look at Boston, are you actually saying Brooks and Lowry are even in the same realm as Rondo? Plus, aside from the Nuggets and Jazz, all those teams have a superstar. We do not. Our number one goal is to get one. Overpaying two players who walk the line of starter and reserve does not help in that process...
No, I'm not saying Lowry+Brooks = Rondo. I'm just pointing out that "$10M for two guys at the same position" isn't THAT big of a deal -- several teams pay that or close to it, as I demonstrated. The "superstar-less" Rockets are currently paying $12M for two guys at the same position (SG). And the only pair of PGs from the five teams I listed that I'd take over Lowry + Brooks would be Boston (for Rondo) and possibly Denver.
Even though all the stuff the OP said is true, he was never a All-Star talent and never will be. Honest truth.
You can't just look at the AB trade as just AB for Dragic and the first rounder. The main thing was that it allowed Lowry to grab reigns of the starting PG job with out the controversy of AB backing him up, and boy has it done wonders for him. Now the team has their defined roles, and it's showing with how well they've been playing as of late. I loved AB, and will always remember that Lakers series, but it was the right move to trade him.
Um did you seriously miss the entire post explaining how double teams help even if they don't score. Did you miss the Stephen Curry held scoreless article? Wow you are really stupid, or unable to read, but most likely both.
Brooks is not the most talented player we had. Plus Lowry is a better player overall. Brooks can score but Lowry can do so many other things. Lowry can rebound better, drive to the basket and draw contacts, better defender, better court vision, and hustle more. This really isn't a hot streak for Lowry. He's always been playing like this except this year, he improved his jumpshot way more. Why would you pay Brooks instead of Lowry? You rather have a PG that just shoots all day without playing any defense, or grab rebounds and get his teammates involve as much as Lowry? Plus Brooks is undersized so he gets abused by bigger guards. Im sorry but Lowry is doing so many different things to help the Rockets win while Brooks can only shoot his team into and out of games.
how you do know AB was coming back next year? and not for a lot of money? like the nuggets with carmelo they knew he was leaving, and then they decided to get something in return. Cleveland not traded Lebron and they thought they could keep him, and at the end they got empty handed.
Aaron helped us get out of the 1st round for the 1st time in 12 years. I think the thread is where it belongs. Up there you just making up rules. People are allowed to talk about Tracy Murray in the garm but they can't talk about Brooks? You kidding me? Go tweet Morey or something.
Box score stats (regular season) for Brooks and Lowry since 08-09 season, as members of the Houston Rockets: Code: ----- per 36 minutes ----- GP mpg pts apg rpg stl tov fg% 3fg% ts% PER Brooks 196 29.2 18.2 5.0 2.7 0.9 2.6 41% 37% 53% 14.3 Lowry 159 27.4 13.6 6.7 4.7 1.4 2.4 43% 34% 55% 15.8 I knew the +/- numbers were very good for Lowry, but I didn't realize his boxscore stats also looked so favorable.
