Come on - apples and oranges. You can't put the Gasol is better than Love argument all on Kevin for his team's record. Kevin Love is only in his 3rd year and is averaging 20/15. Gasol in his 3rd year averaged 17 and 7, had a good coach(Hubie Brown), and more of a supporting staff than Love has ever had(Mike Miller, Shane Battier, Jason Williams, James Posey, Bonzi, and even Wes Persons was still a double digit scorer back then), and a great GM(Jerry West). I also remember back then the rep on Gasol was he was soft and got a lot of garbage points. In Love's 3rd year his second best player by a wide margin is Michael Beasley and he is being coached by a rookie coach with one of the worst GMs in the league. Rambis is such a crappy coach that Love wasn't even playing starter's minutes until he uncorked the 31/31 game and THEN it occurred to Rambis that maybe Love was good enough to get 35+ minutes a game. ...fact is, Love is a decent player but I don't think anyone is going to compare him to Hakeem, Shaq, etc....and Gasol doesn't belong in that comparison either. Love, like Gasol can be a key component to a championship team but neither could carry a team for more than a couple of games at a time. ...and for what it's worth Kobe has rarely made his teammates better. I won't question that Kobe is one of the most skilled, productive players to ever play the game - but there is zero evidence that he can make his teammates perform at a higher level. The fact he has won two post Shaq titles is more a comment on how great a coach Phil is and how great a GM Kuptchak is in putting that team together than Kobe taking lesser talent to the promised land. Hakeem's first championship was won with a 2nd best player who probably wouldn't even crack the Laker's starting lineup.
For those saying he's overrated: whose overrating him? I haven't seen many people claiming him to be a franchise player or the guy you want as your #1 option. It feels like people look at his stats/record and claim he's overrated when nobody actually believes he's a #1 guy on a championship team.
If u at least take the time to actually read my post u will c that i dont say that gasol is better than love ( even if he is ), im saying he is a better scorer. Of course at this point of their careers gasol is way better than love. Im not saying love is not going to be great, i believe hes got the rebounding skills to be really gooood, and a lot of the things he lack he will develop later in his career. He is a very young player, while gasol its probably at his peack. I was answering to the guy that compared kobe to love, or even yao to love. Yao was a better scorer than love even if he averaged less points, becouse he dosent need to score 25 a night for his team to win, he got a better supporting cast than love. As i say, on a more balanced team, love would be a 15/15 guy. His numbers dont tell the full story right now.
so what ur saying is, he should have guided them to 20+ win right?? ok then how? by scroring or rebounding? hes doing both right?? if u read my reply to you when i said "young and inexperienced" bad organization....... as far as comparing to kobe. i dont know why ur telling kobe's story career. i was giving u a brief example of how kobe himself can't do anything. i wasn't comparing kobe to K-love performances and achievments.
again. i never compared kobe to love. brief example of how one player with buch of scrubs (which lakers had B.Cook starting) can't do much. as far the yao comaprison u answered ur own question.
Kevin Love is an abysmal defensive player, the worst on the team. He sacrifices defense to go after every rebound. And offensively, he is a great offensive rebounder and a good shooter, but thats it. He's putting up paper numbers just like David Lee did in NY
I was showing u the diference between a really good player like kobe and a guy that just puts numbers. Kobe made his team win at least 30+ games, while kevin love is not even in the 20 game mark yet. Its clear that only 1 good player cant do it all, but he if he is focused he can really help a lot. Kevin love looks like a guy thats really interested on his numbers. Or do u belive if his streack of dd was at 50 he would have not shoot more than 6 fga just to keep it alive. He wasnt really concerned at it, when he already owned the record.
