It's true. And you only and an Associate's degree to substitute teach. Nobody ever grows up wanting to be a government school teacher, it's like growing up and wanting to become a mailman. 90% of my high-school teachers were complete dumb-asses. Obama's anti-union, king of education reform, Geoffrey Canada totally agrees. http://www.nydailynews.com/ny_local/2009/06/30/2009-06-30_harlem_childrens_.html <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/aA_3mp17j08?hd=1" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Yes. Your point, as I understand it, is that private markets don't accommodate less common circumstances/customers. The medical industry, which is currently more private than our education system, accommodates special needs people just fine. In fact, I can't think of a single situation were the private market has ignored special needs people. phones, tvs, and other such devices all have accommodations for special needs people. Why would education be any different?
That anyone with a BA can teach? You are either a liar or ignorant. Take your pick, and my guess is that you aren't far removed from high school if that's how you remember it.
Yes, you need to be "certified"... big deal. You are still no more educated. In fact many teachers are teaching subjects that they didn't even study in college. I know plenty of teachers to have told me this. Why have they told me? Because they hate it. They government monopoly system is a joke and it's time is coming to an end. Rejoice. Death to unions.
No disrespect taken... we are all entitled to our own opinions. I have to deal with a great number of teachers (primarily from HISD and Chicago)... and I have sadly come to realize that an overwhelming majority of the teachers are lazy, ignorant, poorly educated and teach only for the paycheck. I do not blame the T-Union for getting every penny they can...
Assuming that is true, what is the solution? Scott Walker's bill doesn't look like it will improve teacher quality.
It doesn't improve teacher quality and I would not vote for Scott Walker. I have supported unions my entire life, but in this case I do not believe an average salary of 88k is way too much..
Whatever you do know, I can tell you there is more that you do not know. I'm a public school teacher, and I can promise you that you don't know half of what goes into doing a good job. Best of luck to you.
I think the 88K figure is the value of salary + all benefits, including pension. I don't think the take-home cash pay is close to the 88k number. My guess is one big issue is the tail-end liability of retiree defined-benefit pension/retiree medical benefits being more costly than people anticipated years ago (due to longer life expectancy and rising medical costs). In any case, if whatever they are paying is too much, it's up to the government to bargain a different deal with the union (and it seems, in this case, the union has agreed to the financial concessions). I do want to go back to the question of improving the quality of education, which is not the focus of the the Wisconsin situation. Given you experience with teachers, what do you think can be done to improve education and teacher quality?
You are clueless. I'm not trying to be mean, but you just have no idea what you are talking about. The qualifications for being a substitute teacher vary from state to state and district to district. In Los Angeles LAUSD you are required to have all the same requirements as a classroom teacher which is post graduate education(that means a bachelor's degree plus the post graduate education from a certified and accredited university) in order to be a sub. Believe it or not that high level of education is required because of the teachers union. I realize that teacher's unions in other places are different. But where I work they are far more positive than negative. It isn't that hard to get fired for doing a bad job. It's not a perfect system, but it's far from whatever horror group you believe it to be or claim to believe that it is.
Don't confuse him, FB. He's desperately searching through the GOP/Rush playbook for another nonsensical response.
Yes, the more you, and rtsy spread the hate of a decent living for a public school teacher the better off we will all be. I hope you guys succeed. People who go into public school teaching are indeed driven by greed, and avarice, the love of the almighty $$$$$, and serve one of the least important jobs in society. That's why all those school teachers are rolling around in their Bentleys. Those public school teachers live in massive estates. It's all true. The common working man can only hope of one day achieving the life of ease and luxury that public school teachers have achieved. It's why there's so much trouble with inner city children. They see how easy it is go to a university for 4 years, then put in another 2 years of specialized education in addition to that, and then just watch the money from being a public school teacher start flowing in. With that kind of example being glorified in front of their eyes, it's easy for them to get distracted and turn towards that rather than an important office job. The flash, glitz, glory, and easy money that is synonymous with being a public school teacher is just too easy to ignore. It's about time that you guys call it out. Thank you for providing such a valuable public service(the public service of denigrating the valuable public service provided by public school teachers, and educators).
Claiming some occupation is overpaid is "hateful"? You handle this discussion like every other liberal; scream 'racism' or 'hate' with anyone who disagrees with you. Also, get over yourself FB. You act like you are some sort of hero because you're a teacher. Apparently, anyone who disagrees with you just does't know what they are talking about because you're a fancy pants teacher. Being a teacher doesn't make you anything other then a dude with a job.
Man, you said it. Check out the ~2:30 mark to see some truly greedy teachers living the lush life <embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:cms:item:comedycentral.com:377103" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always" base="." flashvars="" height="288" width="512">The Daily Show Tags: Daily Show Full Episodes,Political Humor & Satire Blog,The Daily Show on Facebook
If I had any doubts before, I have them no longer. You are immature, thoughtless, and poorly educated, with all due respect. In fact, you are your own best argument that there are problems within our public schools.
If you were better educated you would know that what you posted is not an argument. Also, how do you know that I went to a public school?
