http://www.engadget.com/2011/03/13/atandt-will-cap-dsl-u-verse-internet-and-impose-overage-fees/ You know the day was coming... can't say I'm surprised But 150g is still a lot for a moderate user. Large families with multiple computers will be affected the most imo
Does U-verse provide a way to track how much data you've downloaded in a given month? Streaming movies and online gaming ... how much does that consume?
As far as I know, movies should take up several gigs. While gaming should be quite minimal, shouldn't have to worry about it at all. 150GB is quite a lot of bandwith, thats like pirating a blu-ray rip a day.
I'm on comcast and I d/l movies a lot and watch a lot of high quality streams in 720p on justin.tv. I've never gotten capped. My dad also watches a lot of chinese tv on pptv and my sister watches her youtube at the same time.
I watch alot of Netflix and Hulu. Not sure how this will effect me. I have AT&T and I need to find out if it is time to move on without them though . . . they way they are carving out areas. . . you may not have choices in who your provider is. . . Rocket River
lol... I don't feel so bad as a Comcast customer now. But, i've violated the bandwidth policy 8 times already. A couple of those months, I had bandwidth usage in the 800 GB range... they haven't done squat... they haven't sent an email or called. Pretty much means they don't enforce it at Comcast.
man this sucks, one of the reasons I liked uverse was that it was uncapped. Is there any other options in the Houston area that are still uncapped? I mean I don't know how much I use a month right now, so 250gb might be okay, but they better give us a tool to check our usage.
800 GB in a month? DAMN!! I use about 500GB in a year!!! You are the type of consumer that has brought this upon us!!
This time... It's not my fault. Had a virus on a couple of computers that ATE up bandwidth like crazy... I usually use between 100-120 gb a month... but yeah idk why Comcast even had the cap. They don't enforce it.
They should have different tiers. And instead of a hard cap, they should throttle the download speeds after exceeding some limit (dependent on the tier you're on). I think that's the fairest solution.
they're doing exactly the same thing as the fcktards on the wireless side you want 4g speeds?! ok you can have it, but 5g at a time vote with your wallets, switch providers!!! RIP free internet era
Well I guess I'll stick with sh!tty comcast and Clear, two of the worst Internet providers on the planet!!!
Comcast has a cap too... 250GB. EDIT: Although from various reports here from you guys... they don't enforce it? Better safe than sorry, I'll just try to ration my internet use.
I think some of you guys are making a bigger deal out of this than necessary. This doesn't automatically make Comcast great. Heck no. You may find that you don't come close to using 250 GB. If you have to stop compulsively pirating blu-rays, well... i can't identify with you.
But what if you compulsively stream netflix? I'm curious how much bandwidth is consumed by streaming a single movie on Netflix. Or how much bandwidth is consumed streaming a game on NBA league pass online.
Netflix on super high quality HD might be 3 gigs, but unlikely you get that quality without Uverse. i think this will mostly hurt people who are downloading stuff constantly. I have Uverse and netflix and i seriously doubt i come close to 250 gigs. If this keeps from increasing prices then I am fine with i.
