Unless you have a terrrrrrrrrible (Chuckster) team that is consistently winning around 20 + games , i understand the whole concept of tanking the whole season to get better by getting top 5 picks . I am not saying 8th seed is the most desirable thing , but as a fan of any team that is in the thick of the race . Fan should always cheer for the team to make the playoffs. What advantage do you have by consistently getting mediocre picks for mediocre teams. Why not give playoffs a shot and see what happens. Playoff experience could be crucial to the younger players who have never ever seen playoff basketball.

    And here we go .............(Joker)

    Thank you for this.

Chances of winning a playoff series if you make it to the first round: >0%
Chances of winning a playoff series if you don't make it to the playoffs: 0%.

There is an impending lockout. We can either sit around with no basketball knowing we fought hard, or we can sit around for a full year "proud" that we have a pick 5 places higher whenever play starts up again.

    Whee! That's competitive spirit!

I agree. Who hasn't seen our team get shamefully destroyed in the first round enough?

And that pick could get us 5-10 more wins the very next season. But hey, it's all good if we tried right? Because effort is synonymous with success! NO. Sometimes you just gotta know when to fold em'.

I would be content with a meeting with the Spurs. We can compete with them with our full squad.

Personally, I will always pull for the Rockets to make the playoffs, because those players bust their tails each and every night for that goal of making the playoffs.

That being said, I'm not going to be one of those who say "You're not a fan if you want the Rockets to lose." In actuality, they are wanting in what they believe is the best for the team.

So that said, if you want the Rockets to lose for a better pick, nothing wrong with that. I, however, will always pull for what those players want, and that's to make the playoffs.

We should be able to beat the Spurs, we just have to man up and not let them abuse us on the boards. Lakers and Mavs not so much.

    I'm with the OP.

I don't understand why anyone would tank. There isn't another Lebron in the draft.

Plus, if you tank and end up with a good pick, what are the odds that the player you select will be an all-star? I mean, it usually happens, but not always. We have our very own Hasheem Thabeet who was picked at #2, if I recall correctly.

I'd understand tanking if it would definitively help the Rocket, but at this point, it doesn't.

    Playoffs.

I would rather suffer a couple of years than going through this pain forever!!!

Being in the middle of the pack is the worst that can happen to a team.
