I'm getting sick and tired of hearing that. Maybe you should educate yourself before typing. The 32GB 3G (with a free upgrade to 4G) Xoom is $800. The iPad 2 with the same configuration is $729 (but no LTE upgrade, gonna be stuck with 3G). The 32GB+WiFi Xoom will be $540 or $599 (not yet released, those prices are rumored). The 32GB WiFi iPad is $599. Pricing is pretty much around the same (yes it is $70 more for the Verizon model but the free upgrade to LTE does make up for it, plus the Xoom has twice the RAM, higher resolution display tho I think the IPS on the iPad 2 looks better but that is personal preference more than anything, better cameras). The iPad 2 does have a faster processor (probably the fastest of any consumer tablet for now. That should change within a couple of months). The availability of a low priced 16GB is a huge plus (since alot of people like me out there who do not need more), and the app selection of the iPad 2 is currently the best (that isn't even debatable). Tho hacking on the Xoom is easier (but I personally feel that hacking is more important on a phone than it is on a tablet since my reasons for hacking includes tethering and getting rid of bloatware. Don't really see much point to hacking tablets except maybe trying out ROMs but the Xoom already has stock Honeycomb which is quite nice. That too is a personal preference thing as well). My dad got an iPad 2 (I stood in line for 2 hours at Best Buy), been playing around with it for the past couple of days, it is super smooth and really nice (don't have a Xoom, used a Xoom and came away impressed but not really used it extensively enough to form an opinion. The interface of Honeycomb is much prettier imo but that too is a personal preference thing). I am not a huge Apple fan (bad experience with an Apple laptop. Their products are flashy but generally overpriced and of low quality. Tho this tablet is priced perfect imo) but this tablet is a hit. Both are great products. Both have their advantages and disadvantages (there is no such thing as a perfect product). It all boils down to personal preference.
Do you really think that overall, Apple products are "low quality'"? Disregarding the problem you had, why, in general, do you consider all Apple products to be of low quality?
Majority of people I know who has owned an Apple laptop has had problems with them (lots of different types of problems too). Granted it isn't a huge sample size, my personal experience along with some of my friends have not been positive. My iBook was a nuisance. Easily the biggest waste of $1500 for me (I am still pissed).
So, I can say that since the majority of people I know who have owned an Apple product have never had a problem with them, they must make flawless products? Story from ZDNet (stat from American Customer Satisfaction Index): "Apple continues its dominance, leading the PC category by a wide margin for the seventh straight year. Customer satisfaction with Apple’s computer products, including the iPad, rose 2% to an ACSI of 86—the highest score ever for Apple. The company now has a 9-point lead over its nearest competitor. No other company in the ACSI has as formidable a lead within its own industry. Innovation and product diversification, along with strong customer service, have long been at the center of Apple’s success." http://www.zdnet.com/blog/btl/apple-dominates-pc-customer-satisfaction-hp-dell-acer-improve/39420
You didn't say anything that I disagreed with...I was responding to Hak's post where he said it's overpriced and inferior...which is definitely not the case with the iPad 2. Sure, apple products, in general, are overpriced...but I wouldn't call them low quality either. In any case, as far as tablets are concerned, apple is doing an incredible job.
These comparisons are kinda crazy. The Xoom will have a microSD card which will give it capacity greater than any iPad. Apple doesn't include because it would destroy their pricing structure. No one would pay 200 more for a 64gb if they 16gb could accept microSd cards.
Maybe they have had problems but have their heads stuck too far up Steve Jobs' ass to admit it. Majority of Apple users seem to think they have stock in the company and defend them whenever they get the chance. I don't think I have ever seen a company have so many fanboys/fangirls. It is getting annoying. You seriously expect me to believe the quality of their products are good? Hardware is based on personal experience. I have seen many with dead batteries, dead pixels on screens, mine wouldn't even boot. All within the first 18 months of owning the product. Seen a couple of shattered iPhones. Their software is crap. When I had it, applications would "unexpectedly quit" pretty often. The iPhone browser and Safari browser were hacked pretty quickly at this years Pwn2Own competition (I thought security was a big reason as to why people bought Apple products lol).
Overall customer satisfaction (as shown in the link I provided) outweighs your unfortunate personal experience. As I said, I know a lot of folks who have a variety of Apple products and not a single one is dissatisfied with them. I had a problem with my Time Capsule. I called Apple in the afternoon. There was a new one delivered prior to 10:00 AM the next morning. As far as I can remember, that is the only issue I have had. Pleasantly enough, the Time Capsule was included in my iMac warranty even though it was bought over a year later. I haven't had any of the software issues you describe. The included iLife package works great for me. The OS is solid. I have not had a single security issue in the 3+ years I have had my iMac, nor has my wife with her MacBook Pro. Did the iPhones you saw spontaneously shatter?
This is exactly the apple person mentality I'm referring to. Lesser for more, but they all sure do run to defend their decision the second someone points it out to them. If their phone doesn't support flash, its not that "why wouldn't I want this, and why doesn't apple support flash" its well I don't need flash. If apple refuses to put a replaceable battery on their phones, forcing people to buy new ones, its not a problem because apple batteries are the bomb yo and never go out. If apple uses smaller MP camera's on their products, its not that it sucks, its Apple's camera's take better pics anyhow at lower resolution. Every apple person has to remind everyone how they are not indeed an apple fanboy and list every non apple product they own. Its a fascinating phenomenon. That and immediately they all have to gang up and jump all over those who don't fall for the stupidity of apple.
No but if you put your entire hand around them, you lose signal. Hope those millions of free rubber bumpers made up for it though. This in and of itself speaks volumes of apple people. Completely satisfied even though millions of IP4's are junk. Hilarity.
Hak34, why even come into this thread? Really...for as much as you like to trash on apple fanboys, you do realize that you are on completely the other end of the spectrum? Are you that bored with your life where you have to enter an apple thread and derail it like you do? If you don't like it, totally fine...but do everyone a favor, save yourself some time, and don't enter or comment.
And I think it's funny how so many non-Apple "fanboys" find the need to denigrate a very successful company that puts out some really good products. Cowboy BeBop has a couple of Apple products - does that make him a fanboy? If being completely satisfied with my iPod, iPad and iMac makes me a "fanboy" so be it. I guess I am also a Toshiba "fanboy" because I like my laptop and TV. I am a Ford "fanboy" because I like my Edge and wouldn't hesitate to buy another. I am a Levi's "fanboy" because I only buy their jeans. I am a Delta "fanboy" because I fly them whenever possible. I'm also a Clutchfans fanboy because I am a contributing member.
That's a very reasonable point and one that a person can take into consideration when buying a tablet device. Apple does have a remarkably profitable business model with the iPods, iPhones, and iPads. I certainly can see that feature being a deal breaker for some, as is the lack of Flash, which bothers me more than the inability to use SD cards. But a person makes comromises when buying any technological device, from a computer of whatever type, to an HDTV, to an automobile. What I don't understand is the need to vilify those who purchase and enjoy Apple products, whether they use other high tech devices from other companies, or not. It's simply an immature response to what is essentially a discussion about technology.
Was calling me a douche intended to be a compliment? Is supporting this Hak34 kid, who is saying all sorts of absurd things here about people who use Apple products, simply sport for you? So you would not describe Hak34's posts in this thread as vilifying members who use Apple products?
I didn't support Hak34 by calling out your douchey comment. ETA: I am sorry if you are butt hurt over me calling out your comment as defining you as a douche. I speak for myself in this thread and have not been on either "side" except my own thoughts.
1. Your mad at being called a douche but constantly refer to me as a kid. Sounds pretty douchy to me. 2. I didn't see any support from him. Your just butt hurt. The only supporting going on here is the apple people whining about anyone pointing out how absurd buying into Steve Jobs Hype is. 3. I haven't villyfied anyone. Merely pointing out why apple is so absurd, and the confusion in why people fall for logo's. Look carefully, the only villifying going on is the butt hurt apple people who realize their overpriced/underteched devices are just that. I could definately post some charts going over price and specs of the zoom and glaxy 10.1 if you like. v3.0. Ahh, come on man. Tell us how many non apple products you own. lol. How much you aren't an apple fanboy. Why flash sucks anyhow. How you dont need no stinking rubber bumper for your phone to make a call. How you bought a 3g and then a 3gs to get a compass.
