Today I went to the Spurs game and sat in really good seats, met players and got autographs, sat next to Bull .. but one of the interesting parts of the night came after the night when I was standing by the Tundra garge waiting for players. PPAT pulled over and starting talking and signing autographs when I jokingly yelled, "Tell coach to put you in the game more!" As soon as I said this, he got a little sarcastic grin on his face (like this ) and said, "Well somebody's gotta tell em. "I'm not reading too much into this but I figured that him telling me this has just as much credibility as him telling a reporter (if not more credibility since there were less ppl and he was being himself) and if he said this in an interview, which he probably wouldn't, it would definitely be posted. Anyways, he seemed like a really cool guy but as soon as I asked him this, even in the midst of jokes, his expression completely changed and he responded in a disappointing tone, and immediately drove away. Now I can tell you that he is clearly unhappy with his PT, even though it is legit especially considering he's a rookie on a very deep team and a roster spot thats 3 deep. Possibly because Hill is starting for Scola over him when Pat's clearly playing better than Jordan.

Anyways, I thought I'd just share this.. it's almost like a little interview or soundbite or whatever, but Pat voiced his opinion.. its not really a big deal but like I said a lot of pointless interviews are posted here... what do you think?

Maybe he doesn't understand how much the coaches like him.

He's doing a great job, and his limited minutes really isn't something he should feel bad about. Adelman wanted to play small at the end of the game, and he wanted Chuck on Tim Duncan. Not sure why Patterson wouldn't understand that since he seems like a bright guy.

Cool story bro, literally. That's something we all know though. Who wants to play less?

He's probably pissed that Hill has started the last two games instead of him. I'm pretty pissed about it myself.

It is precisely because 2Pat is a bright guy that he understands how moronic what Adelman wants can be.

I said in the game thread when he went to the bench in the 4th he did not look happy. But the difference is Ppat is a professional and won't go all #wordaapp about it.

He's probably a lot more pissed about having to share the court with Brad "Party All Night" Miller. You could just tell that 2Pat really wanted to win.

Maybe he was thinking, "Why in the world were we playing small, to try to match up with and beat the best team in basketball at their own game? Not smart."

At the end of the day, the strategy gave us a chance to win down to the very end, so I am not one to complain. But I certainly can see how one would, taking out someone who was clearly playing well, just to match up with the opponent. Especially for the guy that got taken out.

Maybe we could have carried the momentum on to a larger lead, taking the game out of the hands of the refs to decide? Who knows.

Taking Patterson out to play Spurs ball. Not putting Lee on Vince Carter, and Hayes on Warrick.

If you go down the line, there are certainly not a lack of questionable rotation and tactical decisions throughout the year. Ones like tonight's we will never know if it was the right or wrong call. But at other times his decisions can borderline the truly bizarre. In Adelman's defense, many of these calls are after the fact, not under the real time pressure that a coach faces. Then again, that is why he is paid the big bucks.

I am not trying to dump on the coach, or defend Patrick Patterson. I am just speaking my mind, as it has been in a tug or war for some time now regarding this topic. If you take his entire body of work, Adelman is clearly a great coach... who has also had very good teams. My gut has always told me to shut up and just go with it whenever some questionable decisions arise, and for now I will keep going with my gut. But my mind at times does not want to cooperate.

Oh and durvasa, I am just ranting, this is not directed at you or your comments.

Well, playing the matchup game has never been Adelman's strong suit. You don't take out your shotblockers when it's the dribble penetration that's been killing you the whole game. Jerry Sloan used to be just as horrendous at playing the matchup game, but he got better in his old age and Adelman continued to suck at it. Phil Jackson and Larry Brown are the masters of playing the matchup game.

And this is why players don't talk to fans. People have no respect and run off to post every conversation online.

going small to matchup another team whose playing small is one of the dumbest things you can do, as dallas learned against golden state.

PatPat is a rookie and he needs to pay his dues. His chance will come. It's clear at this point that he will be an NBA player for a long time.

If the coaches liked him they should show it by giving him playing time. Truth is Rick Adelman stunted his rookie year by letting him waste away half a season on the bench. We aren't exactly stacked at the center spot, if RA wanted to go small what's the harm of putting both Hayes and him in at the same time?

And what's the logic with going small against small ball? LOL, did RA want to beat the Spurs at their own game and show them up? Its not like other teams go small on us when we go small, in fact they go the opposite route and play volleyball all game long. We had the chance to do the same thing tonight, and like the Mavs vs GS, trying to be all "smart" about it cost us the game.

Hindsight is a b*tch. You never will know what could have happened so let's please not go back and say Adelman could have won these games by doing "x" and "y" because it could have been "v" and "z".

Could it be that RA knew that we weren't going to win with our defense since it's mediocre so he opted to play small ball (which generally is the best lineup we have) in order to have a chance at outscoring them? Who the hell knows.

We were doing fine until Adelman took Pat out of the game. Dude was going Patsquatch out there. Sometimes Adelman's substitutions just plain suck. I had no problem getting Chuck in there-- but leave Pat on the floor, please! Duncan could shoot over Chuck any time he wanted, unless Patsquatch backs him up. Adelman has gone small all season. He played both Hayes and Scola at the same time. It's either stunt the rookie's growth and tank or bench Scola and try to make the playoffs. I have wanted them to tank for a long time. Scola should have been benched since the beginning of the season. Patterson's season was wasted. They made a mistake, Rosolian. I agree.

Not a big deal, dude wants to play and he saw that SA had a lineup drill going once he left the game, frustrating I'm sure.

I never really have an issue when young players ask for more playing time, when things aren't going well, as long as it doesn't effect his attitude and play when he does get minutes. PPat is firmly entrenched in the rotation, he won't need to worry about playing time anytime soon, only issue he'll need to worry about will be whether he'll be starting or coming off the bench next season.
