yea, but i mean the style is like that, a lot like Saving Prv Ryan but the story has too many gaps and little acting.
i think his review of the movie seems to be pretty accurate. Chracter dev. is the one thing I was trying to get at. And like he also said, its not one of those movies thats gonna kill you, but its gonna have the predictable sequences and have overused lines.
Maybe I went in with high expectations, I wasn't too impressed. Good movie overall but not one I will watch again when it becomes available to the public. I honestly think Independence Day has better replay value.
I'll give it an A- for good action. It was a great squad-based combat flick. I would compare it more to Aliens than anything else. Watch both and you will see the parallels. The aliens/tech wasn't impressive. I thought the Skyline aliens were way cooler. One thing I thought silly- they showed the map of the US where the 'meteors' were crashing...and the only gulf coast city was New Orleans? I guess the aliens needed some beads and boobies. They also 'Commoned' it up some, pointing out the painfully obvious several times. Let the viewer figure it out. (I've noticed that when Common is in a movie, he always takes this role). As far as character development...what are you guys smoking? The spent as much time developing the characters in this movie as in similar flicks. You want better characters in that amount of time, recast it with Leo DiCaprio, Ed Norton, Gary Oldman and Daniel Day-Lewis. Go in with proper expectations. It's a sci-fi action flick, no more, no less.
Just watched it today. Overall I'd say it was a good movie, but I have pretty low standards. Some of the scenes it was hard to follow what was actually going on, just a bunch of explosions. But I'd say it was worth it.
Saw it earlier today at noon. I was surprised at how packed the theater was when I walked in, but I realized why when I walked out. The movie was flat out AWESOME. Definitely 9.5/10. It literally had you on the edge of your seats. Great film.
Battle: LA was the box office champ with 38m in the US and 55m total worldwide this weekend. link Probably enough omf to get it a sequel.
I'm so glad I saw this. It does not deserve such a low ranking with critics (If ID4 can get a 61% among critics then surely this can get something above 33%; 2012 got a higher rating and that movie was absolutely preposterous) It's Black Hawk Down with aliens. Or it's a 2hr long commercial for the Marines. Basically the characters and dialogue are nothing new but who cares, the action is intense and the effects rock. Critics are gonna hate, so screw the critics.
I saw a matinee today. I enjoyed it, but I would have preferred if Spoiler there were other units involved in the last action sequence because I find hard to believe a handful of US Marines could take down such an important target on their own.
It's hard to beat Anthony Lane. http://www.newyorker.com/arts/critics/cinema/2011/03/21/110321crci_cinema_lane Spoiler "And so, in due course, the alien craft arrive: tetchy pilotless drones in the shape of pizzas, from which individual slices peel off to launch spicy, deep-crust attacks on defenseless mortals. ..." "Rodriguez, who began her career with “Girlfight” (2000) and has never looked back, seems almost comically in her element here. Indeed, given her track record, onscreen and off, she may not even have realized she was in a movie at all..." LOL
