Japan nuclear authorities: pressure relieved at Fukushima No.1 Sat Mar 12, 2011 1:57am EST (Reuters) - Japan's nuclear authorities said on Saturday that radioactive pressure was successfully relieved at the No.1 reactor at Tokyo Electric Power's Fukushima Daiichi plant by opening valves. this is correct, mountains are formed where plates converge and japan itself is pretty much the product of volcanic activity
^link? This is incredibly depressing. Makes everything in my life so unsignificant. I can't fathom what's going on right now. All I see images but I cannot fully comphrend it. Looks like the quake moved Japan's coast by 8 feet and shifted earth axis. http://www.cnn.com/2011/WORLD/asiapcf/03/12/japan.earthquake.tsunami.earth/index.html?hpt=T1
Godlikeproductions.com ....I am skimming through the site and there are plenty of legit reports as well as crazy people on that website. There is new info every 5 minutes and radiation has already been reported to be in the air around reactor one. This is getting scary.

I think it sound a little worse, than it actually is. They just talked about the explosion on Al Jazeera. Doesn't appear to be a serious threat. From what I just understand, even if a meltdown were to happen, it likely woudn't cause anything 'major', like RV6 stated earlier.
Radioactivity has risen 20 fold outside the Fukushima plant according to Japanese reports. I think it's something we need to all keep our eyes on.
People that have been outside near the reactor have been advised to use wet towels to cover mouth and their nose and to not eat fresh vegetables or drink water. I'm going to sleep. God bless everyone over there and I hope this is all just overblown and people will be fine.
explosion at the nuclear reactor. CNN talking wind patterns. Japan should have asked for help for these reactors.
The did ask for help but the damage happened so quickly, it was already too late. My bro in law who works as a nuclear engineer in D.C. told me they've been working non stop.

I wished people would just send money or more help on top of just saying "prayers go out"... we need actions and monetary help along with those prayers... I've sent money to the Red Cross already.
excellent discussion of the nuke plant concerns here. it's long and detailed but definitely worth reading.
another interesting resource, with some google earth coordinates and images for some of the pictures we've seen, giving a pre-tsunami view for reference.
