Huge s**t is gonna happen soon at the Fukushima Nuclear Plant... Update 7:51: At least 20,000 people are being evacuated from the region says Reuters, which ominously quotes an expert who thinks there may be just a few hours until meltdown. This is not looking good...I fear the worst. Let's hope they somehow manage to get this under control.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geography_of_Japan The population as is, is already extremely dense. Trying to migrate the entire population into the small patches of land that can actually be settled in isn't going to very effective. Not to mention Japan relies on the sea to maintain its economic status. The best you can do is to keep on building earthquake-proof buildings and hope for the best. Luckily, Japan was very prepared for this emergency; this disaster could have been A LOT worse had it happened in a third-world country or a country that was ill-prepared for this sort of event. Thank goodness the scale of this disaster wasn't as bad as the 2004 Indonesia crises...
Wow, they have like 55 operating nuclear power plants in Japan. I just hope they are well built and they are prepare.
Probably closer to another Three Mile Island then Chernobyl. The containment dome(Chernobyl didnt have one) should prevent any major release of radiation.
I wonder if there was anyone who survived the Indonesian tsunami and went through the Japan tsunami? Seems likely. That's too much tragedy for any one person to handle. I think I would be crazy as a bat after that. Watching those cars being swallowed up by the wall of water was gut wrenching and heartbreaking. Dang, the Earth lets loose what feels like all too often. Wish she would simmer down now.
My brother in-law who is a nuclear engineer in D.C. is actually working within the group trying to help find a solution for this.
Even more bad news.... Report: 2 Japanese plants struggling to cool radioactive material http://www.cnn.com/2011/WORLD/asiapcf/03/11/japan.nuclear/index.html
Off topic, but Tsutomu Yamaguchi survived Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Crazy story. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tsutomu_Yamaguchi
This is freaking ridiculous. THey have like 55 nuclear reactors in Japan! I can't believe the risk factors they are taking. I can't imagine what if the earthquake was even larger.
I'm no nuclear expert, but it's not looking good right now. <!-- http://twitter.com/Reuters/statuses/46439520094273536 --> <style type='text/css'>.bbpBox46439520094273540
