I don't get it either. The enthusiasm for the iPhone is understandable, but this tablet phenomenon just escapes me.

Eh, I don't think it's that strange. The majority of people use computers for media consumption; movies, music, internet, games, etc. Tablets are an extension of that now; quick easy and even more portable than a laptop.

Form factor and battery life for these tablets make the whole thing more appealing. Sit on the couch, grab your iPad or Slate or Xoom or whatever, play around on the internet, check your email, play a game. Traveling for vacation or something? Toss a tablet in the bag on the way out.

Add to that that there are productive software apps as well, along with apps that make that media consumption even easier (netflix, instapaper, dropbox, etc.) and it's a nice, neat package that caters to a wide range of people.

The bulkiness of a laptop coupled with the functionality of a iPod!

I think they switched it around on accident.

I ask him if he was getting the ipad 2 and said ," ipad is lame. I thought the apps would be way better than the iphone and ipods. Turn out it's the same" Crap like that got me :rolleyes: Come on consumer be smart with your money and get a laptop

So are places actually selling out, or can you just walk up and buy one in the next few days?

I don't have a tablet, but I know I want one. Here is the deal for me, you can use them anywhere easily. I use my Droid all over the place and if a tablet can offer that kind of portability, why not get it. I know a lot argue, then why not just use your phone, but it's annoying having too zoom in and not really getting the full experience of the page. I really don't have a huge need for a laptop here at home. All I do is get on clutchfans, watch a few youtube videos every once in a while, check my facebook, and check my email and write a few out (not long ones). Honestly, I would rather just get my tablet out and do that sitting down or laying down.

I really do see tablets slowly phasing out netbooks and cutting into laptop sales.

At Willowbrook today, they sold out at around 6:30ish. I believe I heard the guy say that there would be some tomorrow.

I can see tablets beating out netbooks because I think netbooks are underpowered trash. But until tablets are geared more towards productivity, I'll stay on the sidelines. I'm waiting on when I can ditch my laptop and carry a thin tablet inside my portfolio. That would be sweet.

It will definitely take some time, but I think the future is bright for tablets.

It doesn't offer near the portability of a smartphone. Mostly because it will not fit in you pocket.

That would be great and is probably going to happen sooner rather than later but I think you're missing the point when it comes to tablets. I use my iPad on average 15 or so hours a week (at least) and love it. If my only options for internet/media were my desktop or a laptop I would not be on a device nearly as much. The size, portability and ease of use allow me to take it everywhere and use it at a moment's notice. THAT is the benefit of a tablet but I can see how that would not be useful to everyone.

i mean it's good for people who know how to carry it around.

when i leave house, i don't have a backpack or anything with me. i got the iphone, keys, and wallet and i am out. where would i even keep this tablet with me? i can see the use if u travel a lot and have some sorta bag or something with you.

kinda the same reason i don't have my SLR camera with me all the time.
