Ummm - you guys realize the Lakers are going to try and pick up Adelman if available when Phil leaves right? Artest likes him, Gasol would thrive in his system, Kobe would make teams pay if they didn't follow cutters. Adelman may already be plotting it - he would be much closer to home for starters.

Seriously?? We should be trying to convince him to stay.

Ok. I am hoping that happens for him. Good luck to Adelman and congratulations if so.

It's really a shame - I don't think there is a better coach out there for us. With out luck we end up with the Mike Brown next year - yuck!

Adelman: "I'm committed to try to make these guys as good of a team as we can be. As for after the season, I never said I wasn't committed."

    FSHouston
Adelman on future here: I never said I wasn't committed to this team or anything else. The way that read was a misconception of what I said.

Given Les' recent words (ambivalent about coach's future) and actions (trading away Battier for prospect), I wonder if Adelman is pulling a "us against management" to motivate the players.

Though I'm not sure if removing pieces of clothing from a Les Alexander cardboard cutout is exactly going to motivate the players.

1 season of "spending what it takes to win" was enough for Les.

He's looking for someone cheaper. Trading Battier was the writing on the wall this team is rebuilding and cutting costs.

Dont worry about Adelman either way, he'll get picked up by another contender. Worry more about the next 5-10 years of the Houston Rockets.

unfortunately, the misconception also crept into les's brian. it's too late for ra to clarify his words. remember jvg.

one thing i don't understand is why so many ppl are upset. if we can think about in this way we should be ok. ra wasn't well known when he started his coaching. he got his fame with portland in 80's. now, he is getting old and at the back of his career, just like sloan.

the key for rox to reborn is to find a new blood, a young generation to lead rox. since rox is not good at all now, it might be a good time to let ra go and get a young and creative coach, just like we got DM.

It'd be a mistake to replace Adelman. We're a top 5 offensive team. We're not going to be elite defensively with a 6' 6" starting center. Give Adelman a legitimate contending roster and if he doesn't deliver then we can talk about replacing him. As of right now I don't know of any other coach I'd want to lead the Rockets.

    1) sooner than later he will leave. he is at the back end of his career.

    2) the best ra can do is to make this team wander around .500 with 6'6 center. does it make you feel better with .500 team? will his stay will solve our issue at center position?

    3) why can't you think rox might unearth a future hall of fame coach, young and energetic just like les picked DM, an unknown and unproved harvard grad? how do you think about les's gm pick?

    May have already been posted.

    Chron
    [rquoter]
In the wake of comments by Rockets owner Leslie Alexander, Rockets coach Rick Adelman clarified his position on residential real estate Friday and sounded as if he were more intent on making it through the current season than speculating on his status for 2011-12.

Alexander said Thursday he will consider the team's coaching options after the season and said he was aware Adelman, 64, has not speculated on his plans for the next one.

As part of those comments, the owner said, "I understand that he (Adelman) lives in Portland (Ore.). Coming back and forth is a tough thing."

Asked about Alexander's comments, Adelman began by saying: "Let's clarify a couple of things. When I was asked about what I was going to do in the future, I wasn't asked about any contract decision from the Rockets. Nothing's been said to me about the Rockets or from the team or anything. If my contract ran out, it was asked if I wanted to keep coaching, and I said, well, I'm going to have to sit down and think about that.

"I never said I wasn't committed to the team right now or anything else, which I think the way that read it sounded like it was a misconception of what I said."

Speaking of potential misunderstandings, he said, "I don't live in Portland. (Alexander) said I live in Portland and it's like I come back. I don't do that. I go in the offseason. I have a house there, and I've had a house there for seven years."

Adelman said he was committed to getting the Rockets to the playoffs this season, even with the loss of Yao Ming to injury and, he noted, "a trade to get rid of two of your best players in your rotation (Shane Battier and Aaron Brooks). You know, we still do our job, and that's what I'm committed to."

When asked if he wanted to coach the 2011-12 season, he said: "I definitely could. I'm not saying I won't. Right now, you're in the middle of a season, in the middle of a lot of stuff, so to address what is going to happen in the future, I don't have anything laid out in front of me, unlike some coaches (George Karl of the Nuggets and Nate McMillan of the Trail Blazers).

"They made decisions this year. They had extensions laid out in front of them, and they made a decision. That's down the road when this season is over. Everyone's going to have to look where they are."

He said he and the Rockets had not discussed an extension, "so I can't speculate on something that is an unknown."[/rquoter]

RA's offense is not the only way to run an efficient offense. He's good at preparing but I wish he would be more creative and be less stubborn about his rotations. We need a coach who would be patient enough to teach our young players and be willing to incorporate some iso plays for players who may be gifted in that area, like TWill.

DM has a better take on the coaching prospects but I would like to give Jack Sikma a try. For some continuity on the offensive end, we can hire our Rio Grande coach Bill Fitch (?) as one of the assistants maybe since he runs the same type of offense down there.

This game is a perfect example of why I won't miss Adelman.

He sees the team that's helping his team make a comeback and sits the key pieces late in games.

Patterson sits to let Miller play!?! WTF!!!

He can't run a decent play out of a timeout either!!

    See ya!!

You're right. The other way to run an efficient offense is to coach superstars. You want to 'incorporate iso plays' for T-Will when the Rockets are already top 4 in the league in offense. What, is T-Will going to make them #1? You want RICK ADELMAN to be MORE creative? That's the funniest thing I've heard in a while, but to be fair, this is the first thread I've checked tonight.

Too many close endgame losses show we're good enough to hang with the best teams but we don't have great endgame playcalling nor great endgame adjustments.
