Yeah, they were called the 2005-2007 Lakers. T-Mac's 2002-2003 was still better than either season.

fine, let's just compare that season

    Tracy
    32 points
    6.5 rebounds
    5.5 assist

    Kobe
    30 points
    6.9 rebounds
    5.9 assist

    2 points big difference?
    okay

    2005-06 Kobe
    35.4 points
    5.3 rebounds
    4.5 assist

I was wondering how long were they planning on staying in Miami after the game. I thought most teams left whatever city they were in as soon as it was over. I guess he knew what time they had to leave or w/e

    Tracy's 2002-2003

PER: 30.3 (aside, do you guys realize how rare a PER >30 is?)
    eFG%: .505
    ORtg: 116
    DRtg: 104
    Off. Win Shares: 13.2
    Def. Win Shares: 2.9

    Kobe's 2005-06

    PER: 28.0
    eFG%: .491
    ORtg: 114
    DRtg: 105
    Off. Win Shares: 11.6
    Def. Win Shares: 3.7

    Kobe's 2006-07

    PER: 26.1
    eFG%: .502
    ORtg: 115
    DRtg: 109
    Off. Win Shares: 10.8
    Def. Win Shares: 2.2

Those are Kobe's two best years, vs. Tracy's best. All occurred on .500-ish teams knocked out of the playoffs in the first round.

Kobe has had better teammates, better health, and a better work ethic. In his prime, T-Mac was still a better player. Maybe if he had Kobe's mindset he still would be.

    How is that possible?

T-mac put up great stats in the L-Eastern Conference and couldn't elevate his team to win a first round playoff series .

Kobe played in the strong Western Conference vs Utah vs Suns vs Spurs.
And when IT MATTERED he was clutch.

If you go back in time and asked the people who thought the world was flat, they'd still tell you that no way on the farthest edge of the planet is T-mac even close to Kobe.

Hell E-T would give you a middle finger if you told him T-mac was better than Kobe.

No way in Hell, Heaven, Limbo, Planet of the Apes, Cybertron, or Earth, Tmac was ever better than Kobe.

I know T-mac fans popped the bottles when he won scoring titles, but Kobe was popping bottles when he won championships.

Now, that's way overrated in my eyes. It is just finding excuses to me. I can even say it was WEAK to do it while the media was watching.

Come on, the guy is 32, he ain't getting no better. He is probably the best player in the game so what the hell him taking uncontested shots (which is too easy, too boring for him) will change? Will it improve his game? Hell no! Will it help the Lakers next time? HELL NO.

IMO it was all on purpose. The Lakers lost, he got owned by Wade at the end so with him doing that, he knew media would start writing about how great competitor he is and how hard he works. And to me, it is just making up for the loss, or finding excuses. He wanted to look GREAT.

I agree with those talking about his shot selection. The fact is, he was guarded by more athletic Wade and instead of taking advatnage of Wade (posting him up, running through the screens) he was taking the ball at the top of the key and shot bad, contested jumpers. How about passing it, letting the play develop etc? Kobe's great, he'll make some unbelivable shots but that is BAD basketball.

WEAK move to me. He still got owned by DWade in the end. And his defense was pretty weak too.

Exactly. When the game is on the line they completly forgot that they have advantage against ANY team in basketball with Pau and Andrew. Still, they never recive the ball and Kobe always finishes plays with bad jumpers.

It's pretty obvious you completely ignored my post. I'll do my best to summarize them for you.

Kobe's best statistical seasons came in years when the Lakers were .500-ish teams that got knocked out of the first round. Tracy McGrady's best statistical season came in a year when the Magic were a .500-ish team that got knocked out in the first round (by a Pistons team that would go on to win a title the next year, by the way).

Tracy McGrady's best year statistically was, by most measures, better than either of Kobe Bryant's.

I know this isn't going to do anything to change your opinion. Nothing ever does, yet I'm still a big enough moron that once in a while I still try to argue with you. But at least make some kind of effort to try to understand and accurately represent the arguments I'm making.

When the original sentence we're arguing over was

yes, stats are all that matter.

but just because his stats were better, did that make him a better basketball player that year, compared to any of Kobe's years?

having slightly better stats does not make you better.

    you basically said it does.

STATS ARE A MEASURE OF PERFORMANCE. TRACY PERFORMED AT A HIGHER LEVEL IN 2002-2003 THAN KOBE DID IN 2005-2006 OR 2006-2007. THAT IS THE ARGUMENT I AM MAKING. I'M DONE WITH THIS THREAD. YES, THE CAPS ARE MEANT TO INDICATE YELLING.

Spot on. Kobe has always been overly concerned with what people thought of him, and this is a typical phony act to manipulate his image. Same as when he started suddenly making the stupid "jaw face" or other "hard" expressions to make it look like he was a tough guy, and then dropped it when he realized how stupid it made him look. Bet he practices this **** in the mirror.

If Kobe wants to practice, there are a thousand gyms available to him outside of the media spotlight. This was done for a purpose, and it has nothing to do with improving his jumper (which is fine... it's what's between the ears that needs work).
