we've been talking about tanking after 16 games.... now, 16 left, this is the perfect time to tank and to talk about to tank.
So we can move up what two places in the draft? Sounds really pointless. Morey's just going to take who he wants anyway and he'll probably be right. (See also: Patterson, Patrick.)
Anyways, this is another completely wasted season. even moving 1 slot up in the lottery is much meaningful than the team playing for the mediocrity. Tank now. It is never too late.
Big Nash fan but with AB's struggles, this could be HUGE for the Rockets. Even when Nash returns his minutes will be limited and/or non-Nash like.
We should start playing all the players that have questions marks for next season and see what they can really do when given big minutes.
or let's see how we match up tomrrow against Spurs cuz if we make it to number 8, we'll be facing the best in the league Spurs.
1. Morey believed Patterson should have been drafted at #6. In other words, the Rockets got lucky he fell that far. Two places can be easily be all the difference in the world to get a player who is dropping. Two places helps the Rockets get Serge Ibaka in 2008, Rudy Fernandez in 2007, and Brandon Roy in 2006. Say what you want, but would have bet anything the Rockets win a title in either 06 or 07 with Roy and/or Fernandez. With Ibaka, we no longer are fretting about not having a big man, and would have never paid for Miller's contract. Who knows, now with a good back up for Yao, 2. Draft spot No 13/14 has never won moved up to a top 3 pick. No. 11 and 12 have twice. So we're saying there's a chance. 3. Playing for the playoffs ensures the Rockets the No. 13/14 seed. Not doing so likely puts them behind both Utah and the unlucky team to miss the playoff which is No. 12 3. Both Charlotte and Milwaukee schedules are not that bad for the rest of the season. One or both could win 8 games only based on competition and not counting a clutch win against a playoff team that is resting starters. 4 4..Clippers are playing very well right now play number of teams that could rest starters depending on how things play out. Especially if Gordon can come back March 16th, they could win some games.
Lol Dejuan Blair is gonna play against us the same way he played in that rookie sophomore game. Eat us alive in the post. Our only hope defensively is 2Pat. Hayes will be preoccupied at the C position.
This homestand will decide the fate of the team. The Rockets must win at least 5 out of the 6 to stay in the race.
If they go 16-0 from here on out and make the playoffs or go 12-4 from here on out and not make the playoffs, their pick will probably be a little worse, but their chances of making a trade for a star will be a lot better because their young players will be worth more. Tanking is weaksauce. Losing is what you do when you have no other choice. For all the bottom 10 teams in the last 5 years, how many of them have become contenders? How about the last 10 years? How many contenders did we get out of the last 100 tries of tankage? Well?
7 New Orleans 38 29 .567 15 ½ 8 Memphis 36 30 .545 17 Phoenix 33 30 .524 18 ½ Utah 34 31 .523 18 ½ Houston 33 33 .500 20 Root root root for Phoenix (and OKC even Nugs/and against Magic). The greater pick movement is there.
The Rockets could win out the string and still not make it the way the teams in front of them are playing. That loss in Pheonix was like losing two games in the standings .... I havent given up hope that they make the playoffs but the probability of them doing so is very small at htis point
Before you predict 16:0 or 12:4, you have to know your team. This Rockets team are no good. I think Les and Morey will make the ship tank to the right direction. Instead of predicting the record, I predict that either one of Martin or Lowry will be injured soon.
If we wanted to root for anybody to make the playoffs other than ourselves, it'd be Phoenix or Memphis. If Phoenix makes the playoffs we get their 1st, otherwise we get Orlando's 1st (not as good). Memphis has to make the playoffs twice in the next like 5 tries for us to get their 1st, otherwise it's their 2nd and $3 mil. In other words: Death to New Orleans.
I could not be more of a Rockets fan but I slapped together this little spreadsheet and we are going to have to upset a team. I personally believe the 2 biggest games on this schedule are @ Philadelphia on the 2nd night of a back to back and tomorrow nights game against the Spurs. The Spurs are playing tonight so we might be able to catch them with dead legs tomorrow. Utah is done. Phoenix has a lot of road games and back to backs so I just cant see them getting it done. Portland has a really brutal schedule and I think they are going to look like they are gonna blow it with losing 8 in a row but unless we catch them, they will still hang on. That 8 game stretch for the Blazers seems to be the toughest part of any of the teams schedules.
