Did you mean the 2004 Tsunami? This will be bad but it won't be close to the death toll or extent of damage of the 2004 Tsunami.
Stay away from Ocean Beach, Pacifica, Half Moon Bay and really anywhere along the ocean. Also keep in mind this thing will come in surges with possible hours in between and possibly the later ones even bigger. From what I heard in Thailand of the 2004 tsunami was that the first one was only a meter high, the next one several meters and the one after that even larger. One reason why the death toll was so high was that many people came out after the first one not realizing that more were coming. From what I heard in both Thailand and Sri Lanka were that people since the first wave washed up a lot of fish people were out collecting fish on the beach when the next wave came in.
The talking heads on CNN are eating this up. They're reporting that one of the Nuclear Reactors is having issues with getting enough water to cool the reactor. I take it all with a grain of salt since the newscasters live for this stuff and play up the drama.
What I am hearing on the radio right now is that the automatic shut down system on all the reactors in the affected area worked. The problem was some of the back up diesel generators that power the water pumps for the cooling systems didn't work. The latest reports though are that there is enough power in the diesels to adequately cool the reactors.

Good news on US Tsunami: Low tide is scheduled around 10:00 PST. Much better than having high tide at 8:30 PST.
Hope for little to no casualties... hope for quick recovery of the mainlands of that island group... It's amazing how even being 300-400 away from the epicenter of the earth crust's settling, the entire city feels it like it's there. Here's GOOGLE helping out: Google Deploys People Finder To Help Japanese Quake Victims http://tech.fortune.cnn.com/2011/03...finder-to-help-japanese-quake-victims/?hpt=C2 Was it better that the initial quake was in the afternoon, and that people were awake to be able to move away from the Tsunami hitting it? I don't even want to imagine one happening at night, when it catches peeps sleeping. Yee-ikes.
Crescent City OES: All docks are gone after first surge, 35 boats crushed, water starting to fill harbor parking lot.
