By doing it this way, they just ensured this will be the dominant story in Wisconsin and a major story in the US for a long time to come. Legal challenges, protests, the rest of the budget bill, recalls, elections. Though the Repubs hope it will now blow over and go away, this is not the end by any means.
My guess is a good number of the lazy slob union members didn't vote in the past election, because a large number of lazy slob Americans didn't vote in the 2010 midterms. I think these guys are more likely to be voting in 2012 or in any recall elections and they may even become campaign volunteers, donate money and time, etc.
For those of you who don't know who the new RNC Chair is. Reince Priebus Reinhold Reince Priebus is the chairman of the Republican National Committee. He is also a previous chair of the Republican Party of Wisconsin. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reince_Priebus This is the guy that got Walker elected. We will now start to see behavior like Walker's on a national level from republicans.
http://www.theatlantic.com/politics...ent-says-labor-owes-walker-a-thank-you/72319/ AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka has two words for Scott Walker: "Thank You." The Wisconsin governor's plan to restrict collective-bargaining rights for government employees, which unexpectedly passed Wednesday night in the state Senate, has energized the labor movement in a way not seen in a generation, Trumka said. "We probably should have invited him today to receive the Mobilizer of the Year award," Trumka said. "In your lifetime, have you ever seen this much solidarity?" Trumka said to the crowd. "Have you ever seen this much excitement?"
Two public worker unions endorsed Walker, which conveniently he didn't push to end their collective bargaining power. At least one of those unions have said they regret their endorsement.
Interesting. What if the public employees just left the state in droves? Like "**** you, Wisconsin. We can live somewhere else." I have to admit: I was one apathetic, doubtful union member, just last month, but if the whole idea of collective bargaining is threatened? I just got fired up. Very fired up. I have been shredding all those letters from the DNC, but... I'm looking forward to the next one.
You should see those who actually have skin in the game. I don't think you quite grasp just what happened this week. You and your kind are about to see what a real middle class uprising looks like. Not like those poser tea baggers.
great idea! there are so many (public sector) jobs available in Illinois, Minnesota, et al. Since popular opinion of health care reform has been going up ever since it was passed, I'd say it's working out pretty well.
Repped for posting this...AWESOME! !...Required viewing for liberals... Private sector unions have at least a trace of lineage to justified existance. Public sector unions is all about the goal of MORE and more FREE at taxpayer expense...not responsible and not sustainable.
exactly. given that side's tactics for lying and trying to cause disruption among the protesters to make them look bad, nothing they claim can be taken seriously. i hope the rally in madison saturday wakes the rest of the country up.
We'll see how the recalls go over the next year. And never mind the jumpstart Mr. Walker just handed to the president's re-election. Because really, we all know that this is what this whole fiasco is about. As we've been saying all along, this was nothing to do with budgets.
