I didn't see this posted - if it is already out there, lock her up:

NBA commissioner David Stern said Thursday that he won't speak to Orlando Magic coach Stan Van Gundy personally about recent comments critical of him, but that he doesn't expect Van Gundy to make similar remarks in the future.

"I would render a guess ... that we won't be hearing from him for the rest of the season," Stern said Thursday on "The Herd with Colin Cowherd on ESPN Radio."

"When he stops and reads what he said and realizes what he did, he will say no more."

Asked by host Cowherd what he could do to Van Gundy, Stern said: "I have a feeling that some modicum of self-restraint will cause Stan and the team for which he works to rein in his aberrant behavior."

Van Gundy, defending Magic center Dwight Howard, who was suspended after getting his 16th technical of the season, said Monday that Howard gets no protection from the league's referees.

Van Gundy was asked if the Magic had a case with the league office about their feeling that Howard has been excessively fouled, and he responded that he doesn't think outside input is heard in the NBA offices.

"This is the system David Stern and his minions like," Van Gundy said. "So that's the system you have. ... I certainly can't have an opinion because David Stern, like a lot of leaders we've seen in this world lately, don't really tolerate other people's opinion or free speech or anything. So I'm not really allowed to have an opinion. So it's up to him.

"He decides and he likes the system he has."

Stern initially told Cowherd he would not respond to Van Gundy, but then said: "I'm going to engage in private discussions at this point with this franchise."

After that, asked if Van Gundy's comments bothered him personally, Stern said: "It didn't bother me personally. I see somebody whose team isn't performing, whose star player was suspended, who seems to be fraying ..."

Stern added: "... Whatever the pressures are that Stan is feeling, that he fell to whatever position he's in to say something like this, it made me sad."

The Van Gundy brothers are the only ones who dare to speak up.

i bet you can pull jeff's quotes from years past about yao and it would read word for word.

also, since the rockets are rebuilding, might as well play to the nba rules...build a perimeter oriented team since bigs get no love from refs. plus they can't close out a game due to zone defenses being allowed now.

I admire SVG's courage to stand up to Stern, but he should have checked with his brother before trying to question the NBA's officiating of big men. The sad thing is that Stern doesn't even bother trying to answer the legitimate claim that they bring up; he just snuffs them out.
Well, at least Houston doesn't have to worry about poor officiating of dominant centers for awhile.:(

Stern just proved SVG's point, Magic will probably never get a call for the rest of the season

I hate Stern. Such a little b****. Hire someone who is actually interested in the basketball aspect of the commish position, not just the business and money part.

If ther was ever one thing that could stop me from watching the Rockets it would be the Stern and the horrible refs with the superstar calls and the mystery calls at key junctures that influence outcomes.

David Stern is a piece of *****! Stan Van Gundy called him out, and David Stern pulled a cheap line from the Godfather talking about "we won't hear from him again." That can be classified as a legitimate threat. Stern is a nobody. When he die, i guarantee more people will celebrate than mourn his sorry ass.

I live in brazil and it's only been a few years since I started watching the NBA so my question is, hasn't anyone fought for the comissioner to be elected and have a limited mandate (time span wise)?

Instead of this semi dictatorship s***?

Everything that SVG says is correct, but he should know better than to cross The David Stern.

David Stern has an one year contract, which each year after a certain date gets automatically extended for another year, should the owners not choose to vote against him or voice their displeasure in some sort of form. (I don't remember the exact process, but it's something along those lines).

I don't understand why everyone hates David Stern. Is it just the cool thing to do?

Also, I have no idea what exactly Stan Van Gundy is implying/complaining about...can someone explain it to me? Is it that Howard doesn't get enough foul calls, and he's mad that David Stern doesn't just unilaterally decide to give Howard more foul shots? LOL. How dare he not listen to a coach who wants his team to receive more favorable refereeing. How dare he!

Give me a break...if anything I think Stern has the right of it. Van Gundy just sounds frustrated and upset that his teams not really meeting expectations.
