You said: Are you now trying to claim that the debate about the Affordable Care Act only went on for 72 hours before it was voted on?
Since the bill in Wisconsin is the same bill as before minus the financial aspects, than it has been available for almost 20 days ("about a month"). The ACA was available 72 hours before the vote. Also, should we compare the size of the bills?
The only difference between the health care bill that was first being debated and the health care bill that was made available to the public before being voted on was that it was stripped down (i.e things such as no public option). You can't claim that health care was rushed through while the Wisconsin bill was debated for a long enough period of time without being insanely hypocritical. BTW, "minus the financial aspects" is pretty much another way of saying "minus the part about this bill being about balancing the budget."
Wrong. As stated by Nancy Pelosi: "We have to pass the health care bill to see what's in it". Nobody knew what was in that turd. Wrong as well. It means playing the political game to deal to deal with cowardly politicians who were also trying to play the political game.
Oh come on. If nobody knew what was in the bill, then who wrote it? Robots from outer space? You and your ilk sure acted like you knew what was in it. It was a socialist, communist government takeover of health care, right? Ironically, Republicans to this day are still clueless as to what is actually in the bill. It meant the Republicans in Wisconsin going behind closed doors to hammer together a bill that they could pass without their Democrat counterparts being included. Isn't that what you guys always accuse the Democrats of doing? Hypocrite!
I'm actually not so displeased about this bill getting through as I am hopeful it may wake some poor/middle class folks out of their republican small-government stupor. It was never about budget corrections or fiscal responsibility - it was class warfare with the GOP firmly on the side of the "haves". I think this very publicized struggle has further confirmed and solidified that statement, and I suspect less radical folks are realizing this too (calls for recalls being the primary example). That all being said, these politicians were voted into office on the strength of support from many of these very same folks. The cognitive dissonance that has been a hallmark of the lower-class republican supporter (even more so post-Obama) has resulted in exactly what any objective outside observer would expect, and in that regard I think there is some amount of "just desserts" here. In that same vein, the silly contingent claiming this is a victory for the "taxpayer" do not appear to understand how the collective bargaining process works, or that the union members are composed of...errmm....taxpayers. Furthermore, this post is not to indemnify democrats, who are just as thoroughly in cahoots with corporate interests and the rich - they just throw a bone to populism now and then. Those are the choices. Pretty lame, eh?
The healthcare bill was a patchwork of tons of things different Democrats wanted. If you know who wrote it, than go ahead and tell me. No. It is the same bill as before minus some of the aspects the original bill had. Their is no "hammering behind close doors". So the Democrats have had 20 days to look at it. Also did you forget most their "Democrat counterparts" are at a spa in Illinois?
First, your link has nothing to do with the "72 hour" claim that was made. Second, the provisions of the ACA had been hashed out over 14 months. If the Republicans only saw it 72 hours before passage, it is because they chose to talk about a "clean sheet of paper" rather than engaging in substantive debate over the bill. Why do you have to lie to try and make your points?
It's not the same bill as before. People have a right to see what was cut from the bill, and have time to see what was cut according to Wisconsin law. The claim that it's the same bill as before except for the parts that aren't the same doesn't really make sense. The health care bill had twice as many Republican amendments as it did Democratic amendments, is the same stuff Romney, and Bob Dole had proposed before. To claim it's a only a list of things Democrats wanted is laughable.
I don't get why the Republicans felt it was necessary or beneficial to them to pass the stripped down bill this quickly. Could they not have allowed for debate on he stripped down bill for 2 or 3 days if they have the votes anyway? Why is it necessary to get rid of these rights yesterday as opposed to this Friday?
Public Policy should not be able GAMESMANSHIP. Jeez, I don't particularly care for the fact that the Demos ran I don't like a 'slick' maneuver got this thing passed Neither of these should be legit tactics to making law or not making law. This is so tacky. It feels like a cheat! Rocket River
They knew there would be more public backlash. They just wanted it to come after the bill had passed and not before. They don't want to answer questions about how a bill that removed all fiscal elements is supposed to help the budget, a claim Gov. Walker is still making as evidenced by his statement last night.
PolitiFact, a liberal source, says they bill became available 72 hours before the vote. You are wrong. Stop calling people liars, because like most the words you use, you don't know what it means. The stuff that was taken out deals with the allocation of money since this is what makes something a "financial bill" in Wisconsin law. The bill still serves to cut spending and, yes, it is the same bill as before just without those money allocation parts.
Sorry, doc, but changing the bill makes it different. Claiming it's the same but changed still doesn't make sense. No matter how much you wish it were the case, it just isn't. The health care reform bill without a public option or single payer option isn't the same health care reform bill with a public option. They are two different bills.
Every bit of material in the new bill has been available for over 20 days (Since it was in the previous bill). That's the point.
I'm glad tallanvor is here to protect the interests of the wealthy. I'm sure they'll allow him to lick their boots one day.
I completely understand why they wanted to pass the bill as fast as possible. The longer the controversy dragged out the less it favored the Walker and WI Republicans.
