Houston has always been and will continue to be a big man's city. If it's not Yao and if it's not Dwight then godspeed, bring on the next superstar big man to usher in the next Rockets era.

Looks kinda speculative to me. The title makes it an absolute. The article says "difficulty in signing contract". That means Yao will play if money is right? That kinda goes against hanging it up cuz of difficulty in getting healthy.

It's an old fake story. There are no international interweb laws that can convict the way US and other countries can when you post up conjectures to flat out lies. This was before Yao had the surgery done and the translation is bad. This is a slandering article with false pretenses.

Hope it works for Yao either way. It'd be sad if this article were true :'(
I still had hopes for something simple like him being Ina reserve Deke type role. Not T-Mac and Yao part 2

The article even states that they did not get a comment from Yao or his representatives. So even this "source" itself states that this is unconfirmed speculation.

There is no reason for Yao to make this decision at this point in time. He will look first how his rehab goes.

I will wait and see what really happens. As for not seeing Yao out in public, we will get the first sign tonight if he shows up to the Tux Gala?

Why? Yao wouldn't be effective anyway in the playoffs if he didn't play the whole entire season. Plus by the time this team makes it to the playoffs, Yao would be out of his prime anyway. It probably be another 2-3 years before this team makes it to the playoffs.

    Pure speculation.

-Yao isn't even halfway through his rehabilitation. I have a feeling he is looking forward to getting by to China this summer just to see family, friends, and resolve issues with the Sharks, but its not like he is saying he will never play again.

-The truth is he wont be able to play till midseason next season anyways due to his rehab schedule, and with the potential lockout there is no point to him negotiating a contract till midseason or maybe even next summer because the only thing that any NBA team would commit NOW would be the veterans mininumum.

If he's going to be out half the season, then why not just wait till he's fully healed to negotiate a contract???... makes sense. He's going back to China this summer, but its not necessarily for good. When he gets healthy, and if he is cleared to play, the Rockets will be first in line to give him a deal next season.
