Tony Allen tonight: 22 points on 7-8 shooting and 6-7 from the free throw line, 4 assists, 2 steals, 1 block, and 1 rebound.

Shane Battier tonight: 3 points on 1-3 shooting and 0-0 from the free throw line, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 steal.

This is why +/- doesn't give you an accurate reflection of what went on and that's why you have to watch the game. Allen definitely had a more positive impact and outplayed Battier tonight, again. The funny part is that Allen used to be a similar player to Battier (i.e. mainly a defensive specialist), but now that he's been put in the starting lineup, he's shown that he can score and do other things besides defend. I've seen definite improvement in his game, which, in contrast to Battier's lack of improvement over the course of his career, says a lot, especially since Allen suffered a major knee injury (2 torn knee ligaments in the same knee) when he was with the Celtics. In other news, Z-Bo was in usual beast mode tonight.

Battier: +16 (best +/- on team)
    Marc Gasol: -20

But mainly, I am glad Memphis lost.

Lol, you lack basic reading comprehension skills. Go back and read and reread the rest of my post that you quoted.

statistically, allen played greater than battier

but tell me what is more important, winning the game or getting more points.

battier is +16, tony is -10

let me tell you why people invented +/-, cause if you score 22 and you let your opponent score 32, you lose, if you score 16 and you hold you opponent to an egg, you win.

certainly, matchups and how your teammates also is a factor, 10 games also wouldn't give you a clear picture, but when a large sample of games are collected, it becomes science, dude, you are telling me you don't believe in science...

Those that keep using the bogus +/- stat are obviously the ones that didn't watch the game.

This thread sure is quiet when Battier plays like garbage again, which is why all the other wings on the Griz played more mins that him against the Heat.

If anybody is actually watching the game tonight vs LA, you can clearly see that Tony Allen and, to a lesser extent, Sam Young are much more dynamic players than Battier. When Rudy Gay comes back it looks like Young is going to go to the bench with Allen staying in the starting lineup, and Mayo coming off the bench as well. Might not be a lot of mins for Battier. I can't blame Lionel Hollins, because he's trying to win and make the playoffs.

Edit: After the 1st half, Battier is +10 along with Mayo, but neither have done anything to help the team. You can ONLY know this by watching the game. Mayo was ballhogging on offense and Battier looked clueless on the offensive end (Rockets' fans should be familiar with that) and he did nothing on the defensive end, not even the so-called intangibles. Again, ONLY if you're watching the game can you see this stuff. The simpeltons that can keep citing +/- without watching the game even though +/- is not an accurate reflection of what actually went on will probably continue to not accept the facts. Also, for those who might ask why I'm watching this game and not the Rockets. I'm watching all the games.

Not a great game by Battier but what is important is that Memphis is loosing! Keep the Rockets' hopes alive!

CF poster Kwame or Jalen Rose's opinion of those "Duke type" players?

"Uncle" Battier sure is a shining example of how the game is "supposed to be played".

Tony Allen doing what Shane Battier has never been able to do, which is show improvement in his game:

    Allen - 19 pts, 11 rebounds, 6 assists, 6 steals, and 0 turnovers....+15

    Battier - 2 pts and 3 rebounds...+7

I wonder what excuses the Battier supporters, who were offended that their "no-stats all-star" was even being compared to Tony Allen, are going to come up with now.
