I just watched Monsters via Netflix streaming. If you like alien invasion movies I recommend it. It's kinda low budget, and probably much more slowly paced that this film will be, but it is a pretty good example of getting creative with the alien invasion theme. That sort of plot creativity distinguished District 9 as well.

It looks like this one is going to be strictly according to formula, unfortunately.

I think that special effects and CGI in movies are a little like fake boobs. When you first see them, they'll draw your eyes and make you pay attention, but after a little while if it is overdone it begins to seem fake, and they are usually done to hide the emptiness and vapidity of what is behind the chest. The fake boobs are more about anticipation than actual payoff. If you choose the small chested intelligent/interesting woman, you will be more happy in the long run.

That movie could have been done better. I stop watching it half way through because of the main actor is a total unlikable @sshole.

I saw "Monsters" on Netflix streaming as well the other day. I liked how it was done and I liked the two lead actors. It was a fresh take on the alien invasion theme. I enjoyed it more than "District 9". "Monsters" left more to the imagination and didn't try to do too much. Some people might think there was not enough action or whatever. But, I thought it worked well for the story it was telling.

I liked Monsters. The aliens an invasive species rather than an aggressive high-tech invasion force.

It's pretty political (huge border fence) and has a very indie slant with the blah-blah about life going on.

Monsters barely was an alien flick. Just an hour and a half of a guy getting the girl with some political commentary. Refile it in the drama section.

Have you ever seen "The Thing from Another World"? Howard Hawkes who directed the film said, essentially, that the key to keeping the film as suspenseful as possible was to show the aliens as little as he could get away with.

If you are used to having fake boobs shoved in your face, when you finally see a real pair, you will complain that they don't look right.

I so wish this was the sequel to D9. I mean there has to be one cause of the way they ended it. I might check this out just to satisfy my D9 hunger..

Wasn't he supposed to return in 2 years? Hasn't it been close to 2 years since the film opened? And yet I haven't heard a single thing about a District 10. If any sequel deserved to be made, it's this film.

Do not want a D9 sequal. I preferred a prequal. I'm pretty sure those bipedal insectoids were once some other species that got transformed into that.

Curious how you came to that conclusion.

I wanna see the Prawns unleash vengeance. And I'd like to see Wikus find some resolution.

Also find it odd that after the massive success of District 9, a sequel has yet to be announced and Blomkamp is attached to only one other movie. Only thing that makes sense is he's trying stay away from the politics of Hollywood after the fallout of Halo.

Not looking good for Battle: LA right now...but the trailers have me plenty stoked that I just have to experience it for myself.

I saw that too, and the elitist inside of me snickered with glee.

First of all what was the mysterious fluid that turn Wikus into an exact copy of a Prawn? Wouldn't it make sense if he was half human half prawn if mixed with the DNA? I'm just guessing these were once some intelligent species that got transformed into these unwanted aliens form not their own and thrown into this slave ship. I'm pretty sure it might not be the director intention but that's how I would want it to be. I mean if all his intention was to turn Wikus from a human to a prawn to prove a point of him becoming more humane is too basic of a theme for me.

    trailer looks fantastic, will watch

i really dont pay attention to critics when it comes to most films, rather they're there to reassure me that whether the movie is a mindless action, comedy brain vacation, or 'deep with sophistication'

It's getting 35% which is enough for me to see some mindless action.

I loved District 9 and had high hopes for Monsters, but wasn't super impressed with it for some reason. I thought it was slow and was basically a love story... not bad, but not real good either.

I hate that Battle: LA is getting poor reviews. I was excited about it... just seems if you're making a movie this ambitious on the effects that you would make sure the script and acting are good.

Ya i'm pretty sure in the next year well hear something...
and @ Cowboy_Bebop I doubt there will be a prequel...
They already established a lot of back story in D9...telling us about how they came ect...but if you mean like going in depth into there planet and discovering more then that'll be pretty cool. But I think they have too much momentum going on that a sequel seems like the best option imo.
