My questions were honest. I am truly curious. Your editing of my post was completely uncalled for. I do not know the law, thus my question.

Not once have I expressed annoyance with bikers. Whenever I encounter one, I give them the road respect they should get.

But thanks for having the arrogance to try and read my mind.

My apologies then, your post looked to me like a common "bikers flaunt the law" argument I see a lot. My hair tends to be up in these threads. You're right to take me to the mat over that.

It seems a lot of the bikers around campus in Austin have a "I wish a mother****er would" attitude when riding. The character that rides around with a knife ready to stab someone would seem to be an example of this (apologies if kidding).

Also, having a biker in my lane terrifies me because I don't think a lot of them understand that if there's a collision, I'll be fine (except for the going to jail part) and they'll be dead.

Of course I'm generalizing here, and maybe I've just had bad luck for the past year and a half, but a lot of bikers I've noticed don't seem interested in following any sort of traffic laws.

    Re: Seqways

That was one of the problems (along with there being no real market). In Canada, as in Britain they were not allowed on roads (too slow) nor on sidewalks (mechanized). Cool technology in a product that served no real need, and couldn't be used on roads or sidewalks. Brilliant.

    Re: the line of traffic.

I ride up. Unless it's too narrow -- in which case I'd be looking for a new route anyways. What's the difference between me passing you on the right, vs you passing me on the left? It's the simple logistics of riding. We're not in a race.

Re: cyclist looking for confrontation or negative attention.

Those guys don't last long. They're stupid. But don't play games with them. You don't want the hassle of scraping them off your bumper. And it's not as satisfying as you might think. Relax.

I sometimes think all motorists should have to commute by bike and motorcycle for a bit before getting their license. It would make them better and safer drivers!

But at a light or stop sign, wouldn't it be safer to wait in line where there is no bike lane?

    Depends on the situation....

But usually not. And, I'm trying to get somewhere too. Whether I'm passed by cars 7/8/9 or cars 1/2/3 is no big deal. But again, safety is key. If it's a tight squeeze and there's only a car or two, I'll wait.

Worst situation is busses. When you get in that flow that you pass the bus each time it stops, and it passes you each time it goes -- ugh.

i wasnt kidding - but i pretty much carry a pocketknife on me at all times for protection/self-defense. i started bringing it w/ me on bike rides b/c of the aggressive/******* drivers i have encountered - its never happened, but if any of them tried to physically confront me i would like to be able to deter them or at least defend myself better. and as i have said multiple times, i dont ride aggressively - im a very safe rider - but there are still drivers out there who for some reason have alot of aggression towards bikers.

"Who" was right, sir... "Who" was doing the action in your sentence, not the ones to "whom" the action was being performed. Well done.

But then we're not talking about what I bolded ( SPEED ). We are talking about momentum...which in this situation is the obvious law to apply. I was confused by Donny's statement with regard to what was bolded ( SPEED ).

Better get used to sharing the road.

San Antonio just launched a bicycle sharing program.

Soon to be adopted in Houston this Fall.
