-Two Seasons and already two clashes with High Profile Coaches, one of those a future hall of famer -One on One Iso player, shown will not play role. Offense must be modified to suit him -PR Image - derogatory remarks about women on Twitter, lots of tattoe's, could turn off more "conservative" fans of the team -Bad shooter, & bad shot selection. -Its safe to say that if Terrence doesn't make it with the Rockets, mostly for disciplinary reasons, it will be very hard to see him making it on any other NBA teams. NBA gm's really have clamped down on taking risks on players who have a proven negative track record. There is always an exception with players with elite talent, but the truth is... Terrence's talent isn't that special on an NBA level. If he cannot buy into being a role player, its going to be really hard to convince an NBA Gm to take a flyer on this guy. -I would say there is a 70% chance he is out of the league in 3 seasons. -30% chance he is able to be traded from the Rockets to a team that allows him to run the team, and or he changes the way he's played all his life and learns how to be a role player.
He can be an all star ISO player, but he doesn't fit this team right now. His ISO skills are insane though. If we weren't an uptempo team I could see it working out, but since we are, then he's going to have to be moved. Unfortunately for us his trade value is crap (we're not going to get a first round pick back in return).
The problem is, most if not all NBA coaches don't see his talent as elite enough to totally change how they run their offense. If he wants to make it in this league he has to commit to a role, at least for the time being, and earn the trust of his coach before they will run plays for him consistently.
Not to derail this thread, but I wonder what would happen if Marbury went and "kicked it" with Charlie Sheen. I wonder who would survive that bender. I would love to see what went on @ that party.
I see two potential paths for Terrence: either complete bust or eventual 6th Man of the Year type guy. Obviously he doesn't have the all-around game yet to be a rotation guy on a legit team. But he does have one aspect of his game that all coaches and GMs covet, that being the ability to produce points in bunches. There's no doubt that he makes too many mistakes while trying to make plays right now, but it also seems evident to me that he can make plays that not alot of NBA players can make. He's definitely got some legit 1 on 1 game and the ability to score at the rack, plus he's also got the vision and passing ability to get easy shots for teammates. The problem is that he never realizes when there is nothing there and just keeps trying to create something himself rather than moving the ball along. With playing time, it's certainly possible that he can figure out more quickly that he has no play to make as well as learn what the right thing to do is when you can't make a play; swing the ball and let the offense run. Or not. He might just be a selfish, me-first type guy who wants to make the play himself and feel like a bad ass in front of millions of people. And if that's the case he'll surely be out of the league within the next three years. But I think it's just as possible that he's just a player with a Superstar Mentality that's had the ability to make whatever play he's wanted to make on the court at every level until now and he just needs the reps to be able to harness what defenses will and won't allow him to do. In that aspect he reminds me a ton of Jamal Crawford. He came into the league and had crazy skill but wanted the ball in his hands at all times and just did way too much. He failed as a starting point guard early and was still known as an immature, turnover-prone player when they took him off the ball and started him with a true point guard. He continued to be an inefficient highlight reel that playoff contenders wouldn't touch until he found the right role in Atlanta. Come in off the bench, play largely against back-ups, and be "the guy" on offense. It was easier for him to get his against second units, and it's also just what most teams need; a guy who can keep their team scoring when the starters on the bench. Terrence has a long way to go as far as refining his skills before he can be the player that Crawford is. But I think their abilities to create shots off the dribble are similar and can be valuable. If Terrence ever does get that good he'll also have to be mature enough to accept that role, because I don't believe his mentality will allow him to mesh with starters on a quality team consistently. I don't know if he is mature enough to settle for that or if he'll work hard enough to get good enough to get to that point, but I think the foundations are definitely there for him to be an incredibly valuable 6th man.
help "I'm pissed" - I want to start a new thread..and..I can't figure out how...I guarantee it will be SIGNIFICANT... please help me.... I am a member of clutchfans...but...they won't answer my email... my email address is: gone2batanes@yahoo.com
i think he had an alright season with new jersey his rookie year under those interim coaches. he got sporadic minutes through most of the year (as in 30 one night, 9 the next) but his last full month, March, he averaged: 14.1 ppg on 43% fg, 6.7 rpg, and 4.9 apg on 29.9 mpg and his numbers in April were even better. not sure what type of offense kiki vandeghwe ran, but i'm sure it was nowhere near as complex as rick's and probably had plenty of iso's for williams. My point: his early success in a simple, ineffective offense (12-52 record) may have ruined him. he's done well with isolation/pick and roll in the past and that's what he tries to go to whenever he's in the game. he calls for the ball straight from the inbound and if he gets it, he trots to the 3 point line, clears everyone out, and calls for a pick. if he doesn't get the ball, he waits at the three point line while everyone else executes the offense. it's like he's trying tell rick: we don't need to run your offense, i can create if you just give me the ball. and now i realize i am saying what all of you have already said - yes he can have some success with that, but no way rick is going to change the offense just for him. if we ship him out to another crap team with simple plays, he will get his numbers and be a borderline all-star.
Quality assessment. he plays a playground style that only the very best in the league can get away with. I'd personally like to see him dial it back some and at least attempt to play within the constraints of the offense. But... I suspect if he were willing to do that, he would already be getting some minutes. Also, with respect to his game, anytime I see him on the court he looks like a chicken running around with out it's head and the rest of the team just standing there watching the freak show, some guys are just not able to play with in the flow of the game instead trying to force it which results in no flow at all. TWILL is the Charlie Sheen of Houston Rockets Basketball, always WINNING (in his own mind)
Kid got the talents, got insane athleticism to do alot of things well...if he wanted to. But that's the problem, he haven't shown us the "want" in him to be great. He can be very good defensively if he wanted to, he can help on rebounding with his jumping ability if he wanted to, he can definitely slash and cut to the rim and finish like Bud and Lee if he wanted to, but instead of buying into the system and moving constantly, he just stands around and does none. It's one of those love/hate situation for me. Love his potential but hate his commitment.
Reminds me of a player named Stevie that was adored by Rocket's fans for years. Crazy athleticism and one on one skills. Wants to please the crowd. Some of that wouldn't hurt. Just can't build a team around it.
I think running Terrance in iso situations at the end of close games could actually be a beneficial option. That jumper worries me but he has no problems creating his own shot. I still think Bud or Lee are better players for our system but at the end of games it's nice to have a guy who can play small forward and take it to the rack.
You have to donate $100 to the tip jar to start new threads. OR...................................type this "SIGNIFICANT" info you got in this already perfectly good thread.
Why would you want to do that? His decision making has been horrible. Most possessions that have started with him have ended in turnovers. No thank you! Keep running that curl with Kmart. Better % of success with that.
