Yes. That is what the thread is about. Plus, I just can't believe more and more of my family is buying into the conspiracy, when my friends and sister aren't. And I can't laugh about it on the holidays, because they get mad. why are they trying to convince me so hard? On vacation?
My opinion? Because they have doubts. They respect you. If you come around to their way of thinking about this, it helps validate an idea that, at bottom, they don't have confidence in.
Not so sure how much my older siblings respect me and my sister, as being the youngest in the family. maybe I don't even follow this conspiracy stuff. Not at all, except what they tell me. But when they try to convince me, I (in quick ad hoc manner) say, OK fine, the buildings were wired, that still doesn't mean Al Qaeda didn't do it. Chirp Chirp.
I agree with you. What will drive you a bit nuts is that the conspiracy theory is less prevalent in America than anywhere else. A huge amount of people outside America and Western Europe believe the conspiracy theories on 9/11. While I'm adamant that it was in fact the work of Al Qaeda, I don't think that they are as organized and efficient as they've been made out to be. I think, most likely, the US is afraid to admit that a group of raggedy people with lots of money from far away succeeded in doing what they did. Ever since then ofcourse, the US has continued to prop up a surprising masterfully-organized, cross-border, efficient, committed, stable and dedicated Al Qaeda - something I believe is pure myth. However, Al Qaeda itself has bought the hype and have organized themselves to meet those expectations. What makes it easy for a Middle Easterner to believe in the conspiracy theories is that US and Israeli defense/intelligence is WAY overhyped (by the extremists), and on top of that... we've all met people LIKE Osama Bin Laden. His type, his personality, his vision, his money, etc. But we met them pre-9/11, when it never even crossed our minds how dangerous these peopel could be, and we just considered them to be the crazy guy who everyone laughs at. Those two things (regardless of whether theyre true) make it very difficult for the average Middle Easterner to believe that OBL's crew did the whole 9/11 thing all by themselves. It's very annoying. The reason I'm mentioning this is to give you an idea of two things: 1) I don't think there are proportionally more conspiracy theorists in the US. 2) As far as I know, it may be one of the most popular conspiracy theories we've ever witnessed. I don't know if others agree with that, but the volume of people (globally) who believe it is ridiculous.
^ cool. thanks for the feedback. I think fundamentally, when I corner these theorists, they fall back on a line that there is some power greater than every nation and govt that can do these things without anyone knowing, and they can make a scapegoat. All for the purpose of why? If you have unlimited power, what is your reason to kill 3000+ people in such elaborate fashion, when you could have achieved your objective a lot easier? occam's razor
The fundamental thing to note about these types of theories is the method of logic that they choose to use. The scientific method generally goes as follows. You present a problem, provide a hypothesis, do some testing and either verify or disprove your hypothesis. Conspiracy theories tend to provide a problem and then poke holes in it and then present a hypothesis. They rarely ever attempt to actually prove the hypothesis and instead attempt to disprove the mainstream theory. Its the same logic that holocaust deniers (which I dont equate to 9/11 conspiracy theorists but the logic pattern is the same) or even people who question evolution (although god is sort of an anomaly when it comes to analyzing anything). Nonetheless they engage in logic that is contrary to the standard way of approaching a problem and as a result its not particularly persuasive. I think there are plenty of arguments to question even the criticisms that 9/11 conspiracy theorists provide to challenge the notion that Al-Qaeda was behind it but your argument about an alternative as to who actually did it is the fundamental flaw with any 9/11 theory. You cant criticize a theory without providing an alternative explanation. Basically 9/11 theorists fail to follow a method of logical thinking that most of learned in elementary school classes.
Here is an interesting coincidence.... Interesting to point out, the stock marker reopened 9/17/01. This article stems from the 1940's and coincides with alot of what happened.
