I liked how Kwame created this thread to clown on Shane.

    Nice going, slick.

The sweet thing is he has to give Battier props now when he has a good game or his lack of objectivity will be even more apparent. The thread works both ways.

Shane Battier needs to watch Tony Allen and learn from him. Tony Allen does what a true role player does.

A true role player plays a role?

Omg, Zach Randolph -1!!! His 27, 9 ,4, 1, and 1 no contribute to winning. His game-winning shot no even contribute to winning. He suck. He fat. He loser. Battier +11, he hall of famer. Z-Bo no carry entire team.

In all seriousness, good game by Battier. He didn't play well last game. I've always given Battier credit when he's played well, but he just doesn't play well enough consistently so it seems like I'm always critical. However, his blind supporters never criticize him, ever. When he doesn't show up in the boxscore, they talk about intangibles and then when he provides tangible production, they're quick to point to the same boxscore that they villify on those other nights when he doesn't show up in it. I wish the Battier fans would be objective and criticize him when he plays poorly, but they don't. Also, the person who said that I created this thread to clown on Battier is wrong. Go back and read the original post. It's meant to chronicle his play in Memphis.

Here's what happened in this game to cause the +/- of everyone to be what it is:

To start the game, Dallas swarmed Zbo (and Gasol) in the post-- the Grizzlies looked disjointed and Zbo could hardly get his hand on the ball in a scoring position. The Grizz got much better once they replaced bad 3-pt shooters with good ones (Mayo, Battier). Even if the "good shooter" were missing 3s, they created better spacing. Mayo and Battier both had highly positive +/- because their presence (instead of Sam Young and Tony Allen) made a difference in how well the post-offense guys could work. Zbo's +/- was weighed down during the initial struggles when the team didn't have the guys to space the floor for him, but recovered to essentially break even.

Battier hustled for a lot of rebounds and that showed in his box score, he also did plenty that didn't show on the box score-- deflections, tip the ball to teammate who got rebound, spacing the court, contesting shots (even Dirk's last made basket was well defended by Battier). There is a reason why Hollins has him in during crunch time.

I think you confuse stat production with playing well. Shane hasn't had a bad game yet in Memphis which is why he is already essentially the starting SF in minutes. When Rudy Gay gets back and he can go balls to the wall for 20 minutes a night, he will be even better. However, he will allow us to weather Rudy's injury without missing a beat and without him having to replace Rudy's scoring. In fact, his addition to the 2nd team is the #1 reason Mayo has started to pick up his play.

    P.S. Ish is that ish...

Has he gotten any run yet? I felt sorry for him in the Battier press conference.. it was Battier + 1.

The Shane/Mayo combination did look good to me yesterday. Better than the starting combo of Young/Allen.

By the way, not a Battier question but related to the trade: Thabeet seems to have been much better as a rookie (wasn't great, but at least competent and productive as far as rookies go) than he has been as a 2nd year player. Not only did he get less minutes, his per-minute numbers are also much worse.

What in the world happened between the seasons?

Not very informative, it shows that one guy likes to eat and the other one enjoy having a man on him. :)

I get it that Thabeet probably didn't work that hard, but to actually regress? It's not like he showed up fat or something.

I'm not confused by anything. Your Battier blinders seem to be firmly in place, which is probably due to the fact that you believe the Griz got the better of the Rockets in yet another trade. That's debatable, but Battier could not have got the Rockets more than what this trade yielded. I watch the games. He's played 5 game for the Griz and he's only had 2 good games. The reason I don't come here after every poor game, besides the fact that I would be a very busy person if I did that, is that I'll be called names. Anyways, your assertion that he hasn't had a bad game yet in Memphis is false or maybe your standards are real low. That is understandable, because we are talking about Battier here. Although, the 20 mpg role of the bench is the best role for him. He should cancel out his European stepson tonight, though. But don't expect him to help you win any playoffs games, which Rockets fans know all about. You should know all about that too with Memphis' 0-12 record in the playoffs

I won't get into an argument with you but I am not a big Battier fan. Most people on here with good memories can tell you I thought he was overrated because his role was to important for his skill level. On our team now, he is a true role player. We don't need him to score or even take shots now.

At the end of last season, gasol was hurt or something like that and thabeet played consistent minutes. They were out of the playoffs and let him just play. This season, they have been in the race all season and gasol has layed his usual minutes, but then arthur came on and knocked thabeet out the rotation. He's a guy who needs to play as much as possible to learn what he can and can't do. Giving him 8-9 minutes doesn nothing for a guy like him. Hollins is old school like adelman and i can't ay i don't blame him with a chance to get into the playoffs.
