Although The Shawshank Redemption initally comes to mnd, I'm gonna change my vote because the best part of the "ending" was the chess piece through the poster that revealed Andy's getaway.. but the ACTUAL very end of the movie was Red finding the tree and Andy's note, quite frankly that whole part draaaagged.....

The best ACTUAL ending (all the way to the very last second)....

    The Usual Suspects

"and like that *whooow* he's gone..."

Yeah, I love Being There. Just one of Peter's great acting job. "Life is a state of mind".

Even though I hate M. Night. I have to give him credit for the memorable Sixth Sense and it's ending.

I also enjoyed the recent Inception's ending. To bad the ending was given away.

Besides the main character dying, how were they similar?

and one was also true story while the other wasn't

I agree! The last 20 minutes of that movie were great.

    A Boy and His Dog.

"Well, I'd certainly say she had marvelous judgment, Albert, if not particularly good taste."

I'd post mine but I don't want to step on the toes of the poster known as Keyser Söze.

So I'll say anything where Charlton Heston emotes utter despair

Sixth Sense definitely deserves a nod. Totally didn't see that coming.

Aliens...just when you think all is well, BAM, there goes Bishop.

Shawshank...disagree that it dragged. From Andy's escape to the end it was incredible.

The Abyss...incredible performance from Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio when she's talking to Bud...and then their reunion. Has me choked up every time.

    Serenity

Finding Forrester ...that very last segment when he's back in Sean Connery's apt...touching.

Empire ...I was too young to have witnessed in theaters and too young still to understand fully the gravity of the situation when I saw it for the first time, but I recognize the jaw-dropping importance of that moment.
