Someone asked me this question earlier today. My answer was The Iron Giant. I love that ending. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=20LTVNlJ3lw (spoiler, if you haven't seen it before) How about you?
I hate that movie. I saw in the theater as a kid and I remember the 24/7 Thanksgiving Day Iron Giant marathons they had on Cartoon Network... got tired of it so quick
<iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/ZTzA_xesrL8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> The ending of Sixth Sense during it's first viewing was pretty amazing, but it doesn't have re-watchability.
I'm not sure why, but I love the ending in "The Jacket" with Adrien Brody. Something about the message he leaves with the mom. I'm not sure if many people have seen it, but it's one of my favorite movies.
Although I despise the 3rd part being made, The Godfather 3's ending was fitting. The Don reminicing about the three most important women in his life (scene of him dancing with each one) and then.....plops over in his chair and dies in the most sad/pathetic manner.
The end of The Third Man is the greatest ending ever. There's something like half a minute of the hero standing there waiting for his love interest to arrive. She has had an argument with him, but this is an old school movie and all the dialogue before this makes it clear what is going to happen. You just know there will be a happy ending as it fades to "The End" and you'll leave feeling satisfied that the hero got his girl. And as you wait for this to happen, for this extended period with no speech at all, there is just this ponderous walking scene. The anticipation builds. You think she is going to walk up and they are going to embrace. Instead, she walks right by him and right by the camera, and the hero just stands there for a couple of seconds, not sure what to do. He lights a cigarette. Fade to black. The End. <object width="480" height="390"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/UnrYBq0SONI?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/UnrYBq0SONI?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="390"></embed></object>
My selection for most overrated ending: <object width="480" height="390"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ImwTff_lyJY?fs=1&hl=en_US&rel=0"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ImwTff_lyJY?fs=1&hl=en_US&rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="390"></embed></object> I don't get cross-dressing humor.
Being There...just one of my favorite... <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/Bow1ZJTV4L4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Iron Giant was a good one, this one reminded me of it too. <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/Ak-jzSuYB9Y" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Somebody had to do it. <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/-6Pbc8SQwV8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Men of Honor. I liked the ending. <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/-yiMuXj_ayc" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
A truly great ending. Not my pick for the best, but it's up there. I'm a huge Peter Sellers fan and yes, that was an incredible ending. Like The Third Man, I've seen it multiple times.
There's tons of endings out there http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0G1TgseTPH0&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zmRxfdr8T98&feature=related
The end of Smoke. <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/Ijq9RkX4VVs" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> If you haven't seen Smoke, watch this first. It's the scene right before the ending. <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/A-eWoLImTNI" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
