I was confused a bit about the Rogers signing. How exactly did he sign a free agent contract when the teams are supposedly restricted from doing so w/ no CBA?
To sum up what I and others have eluded to in this thread as to why BP is gone : - Box safeties do not fit in the 3-4 - Tackles is an incredibly weak statistic to judge a DB by - Pollard quit on the team in week 17 - Troy Nolan + any average cover safety > Troy Nolan + BP Pollard made some big plays in 2009, but last year he came back down to earth and proved to be a one-dimensional, niche safety who can only thrive in a defense that puts him in the box.
Old CBA is in effect until I think tomorrow at midnight. You can't sign other team's free agents, but you can sign any guy who is "on the street" up until the actual expiry. So anybody who's old team has cut ties with them can be negotiated with right up till that point. I understand a bunch of teams are avoiding it, because they want the ground rules that the CBA provides to be in place before making commitments.
What other players mailed in that meaningless game? A meaningless game, BTW, that meant an awful lot to the head coach. Combine insubordination with league-average (at best) talent and I can't believe anyone would have a problem with this.
I'm fine with this argument CB and FS, agreed. I do think it's a good stat for SS. Not something I've been denying, though I think it's being overstated. Shades of what we said last year while high-fiving Robinson's departure. Remind me how many times in the last decade the Texans brought in a average or better cover safety via FA.
They haven't, but it isn't like they can't find another below average cover safety off of the street and equal the capabilities that they had in BP. Of course we all hope that they get a more adequate player, but replacing BP with equal talent isn't hard, even for the Texans. Whether they kept BP or not is not the difference in next season -- if we're going to be good, we need an upgrade at the position. There are a lot of guys we can stick back there and be just as good, though. Regarding Dunta, he had sunk to a below average #1 corner and wanted to get paid like an elite one. I, for one, never claimed that we could stick anybody in his spot (like I am with BP) and be just as good. But I couldn't justify paying him like he got paid for his production.
*sigh* No excuse for not even going after him. I have a feeling Bob has put a cease and desist on external FA talks until the CBA is done. We haven't heard a peep of interest in any of these street FAs.
What exactly did it mean for the head coach? That game should have had no bearing on the fate of Kubiak. The season was over, there was nothing to play for, jacksonville did not have a lot of starters out there, etc. Maybe he wanted what was best for the team which meant Kubiak being fired. Seems like you are just fine with a crappy organization continuing its crappy operating procedures.
5 yr 26 million http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/03/03/redskins-atogwe-do-five-year-26-million-deal/ Pretty decent deal, kinda upset the Texans didn't event talk to him considering our starting safeties are pretty much gone and this years draft class of safeties is pretty weak
Texans sign Owen Daniels to an extension. 4yrs/22 million http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000...ith-te-daniels-two-others?module=HP_headlines
Also Pollard is Cut? Don't know if any of this is already posted. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl...(chron.com+-+Top+Stories)&utm_content=Twitter
[rquoter]Fabian Washington admits that he had a "terrible game" against the Buffalo Bills last season, a game that cost him his job as a starting cornerback for the Baltimore Ravens. Now an unrestricted free agent, Washington doesn't see himself returning to Baltimore, not in the Ravens' crowded backfield. "I just don't see where I would fit in their plans," Washington tells Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post. "I feel like they've got to sign either [Josh Wilson] or [Chris Carr] back to go with [Domonique Foxworth] and Lardarius Webb." Washington knows that NFL teams are always on the lookout for good cornerbacks, and named a few spots where he might land. "I see some teams I think I can help like the Arizona Cardinals, Jacksonville Jaguars and Houston Texans. It's just a matter of finding the right spot for me." Washington's also willing to set his ego aside. "I don't have to be a starter," he says. "If a team wants to let me compete for a starting job, that's fine. I definitely want to be somewhere where I'm actually playing. At worst, I'll be a third corner."[/rquoter]
