As the son of a former NY-style deli owner, I've never been able to get over the disgusting things people come up with when creating a sandwich.
Paula Deen's reasoning for using donuts is the same reason I like raisins on my sandwich. It gives it a sweet taste. Also, raisins and provolone are a great combination of cheese and fruit.

You can build a decent sandwich at Central Market. But there is gas station that has a deli in it going towards Lake Jackson that is amazing.
