the black alternatives looks very similar to the Heat...how about we take out the red and throw in white? ^_^
I actually had it white at first, but the white lettering made it look too plain. I tried messing with the colors. Here you go:

I like where you were going with this a lot. I'd be in favor of a modernized retro look, but don't really think that is all that distinctive for the Rockets, so like the new direction you've went here. I think the red coloring is a little off. I'm also curious how it would look if you had an HR right next to each other in there. And then maybe rotate the "basketball" portion counter-clockwise so it isn't angled to create that bow and arrow look but instead just the top silhouette of a basketball
The color combos look a bit off, but the style of the jersey could be a winner. I think the constant here is the retro lettering...just looks good. We need that back on the jerseys.
rocketsjudoka, hope you don't mind me basing the below off your idea. it is very crude, as i don't have photoshop and am not a graphics designer. just did this in powerpoint, believe it or not. I think the HR is more "iconic" - in the sense that the NY Yankees symbol is iconic. They tried to do that with the current logo, but it's stupid. The Rocket going up in the middle is completely your design, but again, I think shotting straight up makes more sense. A better "stamp" if you will. An easier tie-in to the jersey's (rockets going up and down the sides), etc. The basketball outline I completely punted on - best I can do, but doesn't look great. Color scheme I just copied your black and red, but I think can be flexible. I personally think the color scheme should be some combo of - red, orange, yellow, black, silver, white.
