This is hilarious to me as well. I loved seeing the bloggers say "Will ipad get RETINA DISPLAY? " like it is a special type of screen technology.

a retina display on an ipad should have a resolution of 2048 x 1536, the apple cinema 27 inch display is 2560 x 1440. i dont think the ipad's hardware is good enough for that.

Its not about it being special...its about it being better than what is currently on the iPad.

Apple claims the eye can detect no more than 300dpi at 12 inches.

The 2048 x 1536 number just comes from being twice the res of the ipad which would be the best bet for increased resolution if you want to easily run current games on it.

Who plays games anywhere near 2048 x 1536? That would kill your video card.

On PC's or on iPads? On PC's, there are lots of gamers running multi-monitor Eyefinity setups using Radeon cards that go way beyond that resolution.

Current games would run on the higher res screens with 4 pixels being run as one. I doubt the new versions of Angry Birds or Cut the Rope, even at high res would be ver demanding.

As if you didn't understand what he was really saying: The PC's importance will decline steeply the new few years. Personally, I'm open to the idea tablets will blow past PCs in importance even though I don't plan on buying a tablet any time soon.

"LOL", you must have cancer in your brain or be an idiot if you don't get the concept of hyperbole. So you've never overstated something in your life, ever, to make a point?

Perhaps you don't realize that venting and insulting Steve Jobs doesn't hurt him at all (or help you).

I'm no Jobs fan at all, but if you can't acknowledge his genius with the iPod, iPhone and iPad, you have a screw loose. He's been right quite often. The total buffoon who spews nonsense is Steve Ballmer. His early comments about the iPhone and Android take the cake and the fact Microsoft has been caught with it's pants down on his watch in the smartphone and tablet explosions defines incompetence. Consumers let their money do the talking and Apple employees & shareholders benefit from Jobs' genius in raising Apple from the dead. If you have a problem with that, go suck your thumb and learn to debate products intelligently like an adult.

Meh...that jagoff is dead set on throwing poo all over pretty much every thread about Apple products. So sad. It's about appreciating the technology that's out there, whether it be Android, iOS, Windows Mobile or whatever.

I thought that the Jobs article was pretty spot on.

5 years ago, all phones looked like this:

Enter the iPhone, now they all look like this:

If I were a gambling man, I'd bet that Jobs is right about the future of personal computing being the media-consumption driven tablet formula, of which Apple is, once again, setting the standard/trend on. Haters gonna hate, boppers gonna bop.

I think Jobs is mostly right (PC era closing), but I think he's off on the idea that tablets are going to take over.

IMO, Motorola is on the right track:

I think we're getting to where your cell phone becomes your "personal computer"
-->Dock it into laptop shells (also wired to portable hard drives?)
-->Dock it into your car to double as your radio and navi

Really, the screen size is superfluous: let your phone be the brain and dock it into whatever interface you want to use. Heck, you could just do so via bluetooth if you wanted. Tablets just need to be a touchscreen hooked into your phone (still in your pocket).

But yes, I think desktops are going to go the way of the landline in the next ten years or less.

Seems like one of the big features was supposed to be the camera. But, there is a lot of complaining going on over at CNN that the camera is a piece of junk. lol

Only an idiot would think a tablet is going to replace or take over a PC. Even in the next 10 yrs it won't even replace laptops. It more like a second gadget people will have along with their PC.

Most people will not give up the processing power of a PC, a +24 inch screen, a mouse and a keyboard. Not only that PC will also get smaller and just as powerful.
