Wow. At that rate (.619 Win %), we would finish with 12 more wins (43-39). That's without taking into account any sort of opponent strength.
I am amazed and disappointed that it took Adelman so long to figure out what some of us already knew. You gotta have Chuck out there for 30 mpg. It's just that simple. He's too good. Ignore his height and look how he effects the game on both ends of the court. Dude is too good. He's a primary rotation big and him and Lowry are the winning base of this team. We still need upgrades, especially at the big man spot. And Chuck is ideally a PF and a backup center. But he's really, really good and we have to keep him next season. Give him his money. $20 mill for 4 years. Can't let him leave.
Chuck has been our MVP and Kyle is catching up quickly. I feel optimistic about our chances of retaining Chuck.
If nobody gets hurt we are likely to wind up at 44 or 45 wins with the way we are playing now. We are rolling. We've changed our identity. We got rid of the biggest ball stopper (Brooks) and the ball is flying all over the court. Our offensive is morphing into efficiency hyperspace, which simply means our opponents are going to have to work extremely hard defensively to stop us. What this translates to is our defense getting better by default as we don't have a problem chewing through the shot clock on offense to get even "better" looks instead of taking the first "good" look. Our defense is going to be improved without Shane because our offense is moving into another zone, the true Adelman zone. This team, since the trade of Brooks, has looked more like a true Adelman team offensively than at any time during Adelman's tenure here. They're throwing the ball all over the court and they've got the defense chasing and on it's heals. This is true Adelman ball we've seen the last few games, the last two games in particular. I look for it to continue and I'm anticipating a few blowouts along the way. Last night was almost a blowout, on the road, against a quality opponent. That's saying something. We burned all the rubber off Portland's shoes last night trying to stop us and they could not do it. And they are a good defensive team. These guys are playing total unselfish ball and since Brooks is not around, that is going to continue big time. TWill is the biggest ball stopper we got on this team now. And he ain't playing. So, there you have it. 44 or 45 wins, book it. And yes, it does speak volumes for Lowry and Hayes. We subtracted one of the most inefficient pieces (Brooks). Lowry's and Hayes' winning percentage is going to get even better than what it has been. Watch it happen.
One thing I thought at the start of the season was the Rockets should have had Yao coming off the bench. He really wasn't in rhythm and, given his minutes restriction, a bench role seems easier to manage. Yao's struggles was a contributing factor (among many) to the bad start.
The thing about it is I genuinely don't mind really overpaying Hayes somewhat, really. He's been a hard worker, has done so much for the Rockets, has never complained, been a professional, etc. etc. that I'd view it as an extra bonus for all his years of awesomeness. We appreciate him in a way no other team does, after all, as even after two years, you have opposing team after opposing team go "Chuck Hayes? Scrub. Stoudemire/Griffin/Aldridge will beat him easily."
your right..but i think chuck loves this team loosing or not..he's been with us for years..i think 8 years? drafted him when he was undrated at kentucky..I think he will stay no matter what. and hes the Leader on this team
This is Chuck's 6th season IIRC, 2005-2006 being his rookie season. Nevertheless, he's def the MVP of this team.
We can't ask Chuck to do more due to the fact that he is just 6'6. In his position, he is really outstanding. He plays the game with his brain. Look at the losses, most of the opponents have at least one star center or PF. So it's not his fault. We must keep him in our team for a second 5 years.
I can see Chuck play with the Rockets for his entire career. He's the type of player that will be willing to come off the bench, play both center or PF, and his strength is holding down guys in the low post and his passing, which don't really deteriorate with age like athleticism does.
