This may sound like it's getting old, but there is still a very small chance that Yao will come back. Might be the best chance we've got.
I love optimism, I absolutely hate homerism. Of course we need a bloody superstar, I don't care what position it is, might as well rename the thread to "Do we really need to contend for a championship?". Adding a good defensive C to this squad will get us to the playoffs, adding a superstar will allow us to compete. Maybe after years and years of failed playoff campaigns people are happy with just making the playoffs? We had 2 top 10 legit superstars in their prime and still couldn't go deep into the playoffs, now we have a bunch of role players with no superstars.
Kyle Lowry is a starting PG on a championship caliber team. We need to get a star center or small forward. Martin is a star and his numbers back up this notion.
Sorry but the only teams they are losing to are playoff teams. After November, I can't remember but a few games they've lost to medicore clubs. NY might be medicore only because they haven't played together but still has 2.5 stars on their team. We need a superstar, these guys are busting their a$$ but we need that one guy that when nothing is working and the team seems lost he can put the team on his shoulders and carry us home...we don't have guy right now.
Fine, we have a bunch of role players and a star on the level of Ellis, adding a defensive C makes us contenders! Do you think we should get picky? We are not LA or NY, I don't care what position this superstar player plays, if he plays PG you get him and trade Lowry for a starter at C.
I think we need a dominate center if we are going to stand pat with our current roster....That why I didnt understand why Morey didnt pull the trigger on a Perkins deal....He would have been a good fill in until we could find a better offensive "C"........IT IS WRITTEN. D. HOWARD IS NOT COMING TO HOUSTON...UNLESS.............
Yes and I hate people from the SportsCenter generation who can only see black and white (and only in the final minutes of the fourth). Apparently you're either a superstar or a role player, there's no such thing as a very good player! You can speculate on our playoff chances with a legit center all you want but that doesn't make what you say factual. Every analysis of the Rockets reveals one weakness and that is interior defense.
Interior defense is the reason we are a .500 team. When was the last time a team won a championship with no superstars in the last 20 years? Pistons?
Wait I am the one that only sees black and white? What is wrong with being a role player? Oh sorry, I forgot you can't be a really good role player and a really good player.
Even without Melo, NY should not have lost to the freakin' Cavaliers. Also, with Roy and Wallace coming off the bench last night, we should not have beat them the way we did, but we did.
I don't know what your point is, we managed to lose to teams we shouldn't have too. End of the day, with their 2 1/2 superstars, they are sitting comfortably at 43-17 while every game for us is do or die just to make the playoffs.
I disagree. Either one of those guys would make us contenders. Nene would have made us contenders. So many things would change with a mid tier center, namely Chuck moving back to his natural position at PF.
They to have lost to teams that they should not have lost to. That was my point. Also, losing Yao so early left us having to adjust for most of the 1st half of the season. Brooks not playing well off the bench hurt us a lot as well. We have had to overcome so much more than those teams all season. It looks like we are finally starting to gel with less than 20 games left.
I agree with Noah but also think he's about to elevate his game to star level. He should be an 18-10 guy who plays top-notch defense by the end of next season. Big Chandler fan, I think he probably makes us a viable threat for the 5th seed and a tough out for the big boys so it would depend on your definition of contenders.
