His interview on Piers Morgan was very revealing. He's known Piers since the early 90s, and really laid it all out on the table. At one point, Piers looks him dead in the eye and asks, "Are you under the influence of any narcotics right now?" Sheen kind of stumbles over his words, and responds very emphatically, "I'm under the influence of YOU!"
^what he said... I'm not condoning the drug use, etc, but damn you have to admit in his universe, he is living the dream...he's f'n nuts, but to each their own as they say...

Well, it's true, isn't it?? I mean, there's always been tabloid figures who are more famous for being famous than for what they actually do, but lately, there really seems to be a lot of attention devoted to a lot of untalented people. Think about it: the teen idols in the 60s were The Beatles and The Monkees (and say what you want, the Monkees put out GREAT songs). We watched television in the 70s to see good actors (well, for the most part) like Carroll O'Connor, John Amos, Ed Asner, and Vic Tayback act good in shows that entertained and enlightened us. The most popular show in the 70s? All in the Family. The most popular show now? American Idol. We didn't need Led Zeppelin to win American Idol in order to appreciate them. Like I said, there are absolutely some great shows, great movies, great books, and great musical artists today. But they are overshadowed by crap like Bieber and Gaga, two of the absolute worst "big" artists to emerge in the last 40 years- they make the Bee Gees and Andy Gibb seem like the Mount Rushmore of rock and roll.
If you're crying over Beiber and Gaga today you'd be slitting your wrists to MC Hammer in the 90s or Duran Duran in the 80s. Hyperbole for the win.\ Sheen is a good actor. He was in Wall Street and Platoon (makes me wonder if Oliver Stone's weirdness influenced a young Sheen). He was even decent in slop like Hot Shots and Major League. He's a decade or more past his due date like Letterman or the Rolling Stones who were giants in their time but he's not "untalented" 70s TV FTL. **** like All in the Family or Mary Tyler Moore is the most dated, unrealistic drivel **** ever. Oh no, black family moving in down the street, what lesson will Archie learn this week?
Charlie Sheen is an average actor, Duran Duran was light years better than Gaga or Bieber (e.g. John Taylor was an outstanding bass guitarist), Platoon's great acting perfomances were Tom Beringer and Willem Dafoe, and your comment about All in the Family is truly ignorant (yes, AITF didn't tackle controversial topics, and they couldn't act to save their lives, right??). Really, that's the best you have?? What do they call that, weak sauce? Bring something better next time- like a clue.
It's easy to be righteous when you're dealing with Charlie Sheen- BTW, criticizing someone for doing drugs and setting a bad example for his kids is not being self-righteous. I happen to set a good example for my son, and so do millions of other dads out there, including many posters on this board. You obviously don't have kids or are so enamored by the Cult of Personality that is Charlie Sheen that you think it's cool to live his lifestyle and expose that to his kids, which I've no doubt he does. ALL HAIL CHARLIE SHEEN!! MY HERO!!! ROLE MODEL!!! QUOTE MACHINE!!! ACADEMY AWARD-WINNING THESPIAN!!! I feel bad for Jon Cryer- he's twice as good as Sheen and doesn't deserve this s**t.
I despise Beiber/Gaga as much as the next person, but there is no denying their talent. You sound old and grumpy.
But here's the thing- there are still a lot of great actors, shows, music, etc. out there- it's just that they're being buried by some of the other crap out there that passes for quality. I guess I'll just go along with it- buy me Monster from Lady Gaga, start watching me some Celebrity Apprentice and follow Kardashian's tweets. Oooh, I'm so excited!!
Seriously, their talent? For what, creating memorable songs or making money? I will certainly acknowledge that they have a talent for making money- so did New Kids on the Block. Again, if I said that about everything new, you'd be right. But I like many new things- just not some of what's at the top of the pops.
Oh, I listened to both artists' music. I also listened to Milli Vanilli and Ice Cube back in the day. And I'll get on my soapbox one last time- "Dated" is SO OVERRATED!!! I listen to Robert Johnson- came out in the 30s. I watch The Night of the Hunter- came out in the 50s. I didn't grow up with this stuff- I went back and discovered it, and quality is quality regardless. Unless gay prejudice, civil rights issues, the political divide between left and right no longer exists, I'd hardly call All in the Family "dated"- go into the Political forum and you'll see that the latter is alive and well today.
