As i defend martin i can criticize him on this, melo is more consistent in the clutch and taking over games, while martin will pour down 34 points in a 117 - 101 blowout, he will get all 30 points in only the first 3 quarters of a 101 - 99 loss....lately it's getting better, ex: new orleans game, really like the energy he had in that game.
I love having this guy on the rockets. I have faith that we'll be able to acquire a superstar and when that happens martin will be key to any deep playoff run. The only thing that keeps him from being considered a superstar is the fact that he's more of a spot up shooter than a guy who can manufacture his own shot in crunch time.
Then shouldn't a guard get more assists/make more plays for his teammates? They're both wings. I agree that Melo lacks effort and that's an issue. Martin's problem is that he lacks both effort and the physical tools to make up for it, a dangerous combination. I was really just pointing out the obvious, that Melo is better than Martin, and the reasons why. All the GM's going after Melo this season aren't idiots. There's a reason we weren't seeing offers of top 5 picks and young bigs for Martin. EDIT: I do realize that Martin is an elite scorer though and he deserves recognition for that.
I dunno, how many assists does Ray Allen get? Apparently you can be a hall of famer doing the kind of things Martin does, I don't really care what the perception of him is around the league.
What the heck is expected of a shooting guard to "make his teammates better"? Oh, I know. Jordan supposedly made his teammates better. How? Assists? Personally, I think that's a load of crap. They won, but Jordan was hardly a wallflower. In Adelman's offense, assists go up with the big men, and down for guards. The exception is when he has a guard who is really a PG and not just a scorer like Bibby was. Lowry is a true PG and as such, his assists are up. Adelman doesn't expect Martin to get a lot of assists, he's supposed to shoot the dang ball!!
Martin lacks effort?? LOL!!! You're not serious. Something has made Camelo big and strong, but also slower and stupider. Why is Melo a hot property? ESPN hype. Oh, and he happens to be a free-agent. Martin's contract has always been extended.
Because he's a better overall player than Martin. He rebounds, he makes big shots, and also he is a more versatile scorer than Martin. Also yes he does play better defense, and can play defense when asked to which he has proven time and time again. Yeah it's not good he doesn't play it all the time, but you usually get that from elite scorers. Plus he's led his team deep into the WCF so of course he'll get more pub. Where is Martin's team, has he even led his team out of the first round? Lets be fair. I'm sure a bunch of homers will disagree with me. Reminds me of last year when people really thought Scola was better than Amare.
His defense is horrible. When has he proven it "time and time again", when he was busy losing in the first round almost every year?
you really need to stop talking. you just make you look worse and worse. can you answer me the question who you are going to pick if you have one of them to build around, melo or kevin?
If either of those guys is your best player then your franchise will be at best mediocre. If they had someone to play off of then I'd pick Martin. It's like saying I'd rather have Ray Allen filling the role he's filling than Anthony. So what I'm saying is that neither of them is good enough to be the alpha dog but Martin is better at the secondary scorer role.
WHO, DOES, NUMBER 2, WORK FORRRRRRRRRR? WHO, DOES, NUMBER 2, WORK FORRRRRRRRRR? WHO, DOES, NUMBER 2, WORK FORRRRRRRRRR? WHO, DOES, NUMBER 2, WORK FORRRRRRRRRR? WHO, DOES, NUMBER 2, WORK FORRRRRRRRRR?
that's different story. it means kevin may be better to play in a certain role. he is not a franchise player. melo is a franchise player. he may not exactly be at the level where kobe, lebron are at. it's debatable but he is definitely very very close to them. kevin is very good but definitely is not close to the players we are mentioning here.
How about when the Knicks played the Heat and he showed up on the defensive side because everyone was saying he can't do it? How about when they made their WCF run?
I have a feeling that if K-Mart weren't on the Rockets, people would be begging for a star scorer (but then to be fair, if K-mart weren't here Aaron brooks may well not have been traded). Imagine taking K-mart off the Rockets, our points would have to come from our guards (we can only milk so many points from Scola anyway).
